I've been running with tube doors and safari top for a while and have been lucky with only getting caught in one short downpour so far this summer. That one came out of nowhere as one of those "pop-up" showers... which, as you know, is a meteorological euphemism for "fuck if we know whether it's gonna rain"...

Anywho, in two days I'll need to take the Jeep in to work and the weather forecast that day is currently calling for more than an inch of rain. So, what would you do? It's one thing to get caught in an unexpected shower. But when you know the forecast calls for rain... to door or not to door.

1” of rain is a lot. Is that over the whole day or is it going to be a quick hitter. Either way I’m putting doors on for anything above .25”
Before and likely during my morning commute is what they're saying currently.

Yeah they would be going on. At least on the commute home I could change clothes if I get soaked. I’ve been caught in downpours. I’ve thrown the top up but seats get soaked and water get all over the inside of the windshield making it hard to see.

I voted for the 3rd option because I liked it! But I’m actually in the better safe than sorry because I live in Washington I’m getting very proficient at taking my top and windows off and back on. I’ve been windowsless for a week now and have to put my windows in tonight for rain tomorrow. But maybe I won’t. We’ll see if I fall asleep before I remember to put them back on!

Yeah, I’ve gotten the solo two door top n’ doors on/off process down to about 15… 20 minutes max. But I still usually only strip the Jeep down if at least four days of sun and over 60 degrees. Sadly, we’ve had a lot of rain this summer up in New England, so only been able to do it a couple of times this season so far. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah. I've gotten lucky up till now. A fairly rainy June and now July, but a lot of it has been overnight or early morning or on a day off.

If you have the rubber flooring instead of carpet(forget what it’s called currently) and a safari top on, I’d say go for it. I do it all the time in my TJ and LOVE driving in the rain like that. Otherwise I’m not sure it’s worth the mildew smell/having to dry the carpets or dealing with potential rust issues down the road. ALSO… all the electronics behind the dash

Okay might as well post here... when I took my doors off last weekend I accidentally forgot to remove the bolt that controls the swing detent and max opening and now it is crammed into its receptacle.

Any ideas on how to fix? I tried pulling it back out with as much for force I could give but it didn't get back over center and full length.

Retired so I look for several days of good weather for taking the top off, if there’s a day in there with rain it just stays in the garage. I bought a rain cover earlier in the year and so far it’s been a great rain deterrent 😂😂. Last time I was out driving and a rain cloud popped up I parked under Sharkheads for 10/15 minutes while it passed.

Can you close the door as much as possible and put a long punch/screwdriver through the detent hole and into the bolt hole then open the door?
Don’t know just a thought

Thanks for the suggestion and did already try that... but the angle is such that I can't get a screwdriver to line up with the two holes to pry it.

Seems I have to take off the interior door panel and maybe get a new one if I broke it. I have got to think others have made this bonehead move before.

Problem solved....

Seems potentially harsh on the threads but it worked. I've seen other threads that suggest knotting a piece of paracord through or around the door detente and using that to pull it out. Personally, I put a small clamp on the detente arm when I pull the door that (hopefully) will keep it from retracting back into the door.
