I just wanted to let fellow Taser Mini users know that the auto brake hold feature appears to have failed me.

Im in school pick up line. Its a long line us parents must wait in. I was using auto brake hold while waiting for the next batch of us parents in cars to be moved into the pickup section. The two lights where flashing letting me know it was holding for me. Its been working fine.

Out of nowhere my daughter walks up and opens the passenger door and my jeep MOVED forward!!! It released its hold and started moviing! It appears that if you are using auto brake hold, and open your passenger side door, that the brake will RELEASE. At least it did with mine.

I will be disabling this feature and most likely removing the Taser in live form. That scared the crap out of us! Be careful using that feature.

I just checked this again. Came to a stop. Held the brakes down for auto brake hold to enable. It enables. The two lights flashed letting you know its holding. The second you open ANY DOOR. The car will lurch forward and release the brake hold, while the two brake hold lights continue to flash, as if it thinks its holding, but its NOT.

I would NOT use this feature.

Are you on the most recent firmware? If not, check to see if updating fixes the issue. If it persists, probably a good idea to contact zautomotive. Seems like something they would want to know about so they can patch it.

+1 to above. If you can make a short video demoing this behavior, you could save some other people some grief...

Videos seem to get the point across better than emails

So this feature saves you from resting your foot on the brake?
I didn't know Tazer did that. Granted, I've never thought I needed it either. Lol.

Definitely not a great situation, but the smart thing to do if you don’t want your vehicle moving is at the very least, keep your foot on the brake pedal.

Correct. Lots of cars have this feature built into them now. Basically you use the brake at red lights as normal. But if you push down harder on the brake for 2 seconds, the brake will go into a hold mode.

Taser added that feature to there live settings. Meaning it has to be plugged in for that feature to work. Its useful when you are in a drive through, red light or just need to move your foot for whatever reason without the vehicle moving.

Brake hold feature is very nice. My 911, BMW and MB have it built into them. Its a nice feature. None of my others have every given me any issue.

The Taser implementation worked perfectly fine too. UNTILL someone opens a door. Thats a big issue. My other cars do not release the hold if a door is open. So yes, I wont be using this feature anymore and will only manually hold.

Well of course I can do that. Or just hold the brakes.

Point of this post is to warn others with a taser that use this feature, to be very careful when picking up kids or whatever requires the door to open. The brakes releasing should not happen. Some of us are familiar with brake hold systems. And they all seem to work the same way. So naturally I was freaked out when the taser implementation just released the brakes (while saying it was still holding) when my child opened a door to get into a parked and brake held jeep.

UPDATE:

Zuto rerplied to my email saying that this is by design. There system does not allow for any doors to open or any seatbelts to be released or else it will release the brakes.

Thats not exactly a safe and industry normal "brake hold" approach so I will be deactivating it immediately.

None of these caveats are mentioned in there manual, which they said they would add. I'm a little shocked the manual doesn't mention any of this.

So be warned folks that use it! DO NOT open a door or unplug your seatbelt, or else the taser will release the brakes and act like its still holding them. Bummer, I really like that feature. Its partially why I bought this thing.

Seems to me “safe and normal brake hold” would be the driver keeping control of the vehicle by keeping his/her foot on the brake. The over reliance on dubious and stupid tech features is going to kill us all.
Agreed. But these are new car features that work flawlessly in other applications. And all of those cars with "brake hold" do not release under any circumstances unless you press the gas.

Again, my point is NOT to say which way is better. My point is to warn those who use it. TO be aware that it DOES NOT operate like industry stanard brake hold in all other cars.

Lets not turn this into, "well hold the brakes yourself".
