Tailgate rattles really bad

Hi everyone I hope I am posting this in the right spot. I had a shop install my spare tire carrier from smittybilt and ever since they can’t get this rattle to stop. I have messed with the latch and everything back there and I can get it decent for about a day but then by the next day it seems to come back and I have to sit out here for an hour adjusting everything again. Just want to see everyone’s thoughts on how to fix this and what could be wrong/ needs adjusting.

First thing is to mount the tire closer to the gate (if adjustable), and to make sure you have bump stops that bridge the gap between the tire and the gate.

It’s as close as it can be and I do have the bump stops as well. It seems to rattle at the top of the tailgate, you can kinda see it in the video. I’m tempted to get a different carrier I’ll just be out of the $600 spent for the smittybult one

From the video I don't see the bump stop on the driver's side and it looks like the tire/wheel is shaking more than it should.

Yes! Sorry! I had the bump stops and took them out and it still occurred no matter what! I should’ve been more clear!

Were the bump stops tight against the tire? If not, you might need to extend them until they are touching. That will take a lot of vibration out.

Also, can you say which Smittybilt tire carrier you had installed? Maybe a picture of the side of it with the tire off of it? I think that most of them are adjustable and the closer you can mount the tire to the gate, the less wobble you will get. The bump stops do their best to reduce it but mounted as close to the gate as possible is key.

What's with this gap here? Unless that is an optical illusion, something isn't right with your tailgate. Also, in the video, it sounds to me like the rear glass above the spot I circled is rattling, not the tailgate.

That started happeing to my tailgate after I installed the TeraFlex tire carrier for my 37. Ended up adding the Teraflex tailgate hinge. Should have done both at the same time. Very solid.

I have the rugged ridge spartacus hinged carrier. It does not use the bumpstops but the tailgate is super solid. No rattles (like before i installed it). About $600 for the whole kit iirc.

ive also previously installed the teraflex kit. Im happy with the RR kit and the savings.

How did this work our for you? Was thinking about trying it.

Try moving the latch and limit block a little further inward and try it.It looks like the rear door version doesn't fit tightly and has a large gap
