Tailgate Bar for Tonneau Covers?

I talked to SmittyBilt today and they told me no bar is available. I already bought the SmittyBilt 771335 tonneau cover for my JLU, supposed to be arriving today. NOW I am going to try to find a bar to purchase since I don't have a soft top. This one looks promising. Hoping I can get one 'quickly' so I can start using it, we have 80 degree weather in AZ this weekend! https://www.amazon.com/Bestop-52700...rangler+JL+tailgate+bar&qid=1587067777&sr=8-7

I may try installing without the bar just to see how it works...will update what I learn if I do try it out. Still interested if anyone finds a bar that works and is less expensive. Happy Jeeping!

Yea, please report back with any updates. Curious to find how it also fits without the tailgate bar at all (how much sag etc etc)

Theres a thread somewhere that the guy used a smitty JK bar with what I remember to be the ramapge tonneau. I have the rampage tonneau and biught the JL retainer clips from quadratec and got a smitty jk bar. This does work as I have it on twice now. The smitty bar does fit kinda loosely but with the tonneau on and installed it becomes solid. No issues at all. JL bars are like 170 bucks.

I jus ordered the bar from Smittybuilt (JL bar is 91206, JK is 91205. Rampage cover is not available, so I got the Smittybuilt one. I got the bar retainers too for the JL.

I got the bar and cover on 4wd.com and got the retainers on MoparPartsGiant.com Look for coupon for 10% off at 4wd.com through Google. Worked great and cheaper price.

i mean..yes. lol. its loose when u put the bar into the clips, but once the cover is on and attached its tight. obviously wont be a perfect fit but it does work fine. id rather wouldve gotten a JL bar bit for 3 times the price, for this tonneau cover thing, i did the work around.

As u can see, theres the gaps in tue bar and the JL clips. Once on tho, its very tight.
Also, not sure if your supposed to get hardware to attach clips to the tub, but the bolts that hold your hard top on to the tub works perfectly, maybe thats the point, idk..

Ordered the smittybilt bar tonight and tomorrow gonna see If I can get the retainers... need to find someone in Canada....

couldn't get the jl tailgate bar retainers so I used the JK tailgate bar and clips... worked fine.. All I need to do is put some velcro to secure the back corners of the tonneau cover(rampage)

The retainers snapped right on... no issues...

fantastic! nice work. I still had my jk stuff and i tried the bar and clips on the jl and wouldnt seem to work with it. guess i didnt try hard enough lol

Hook the back first then push down on it and the front will snap in. To remove, push down on the top and use a panel tool(plastic) to slide under the front to pry it up a little... and it comes off...
