I had the Teraflex heavy duty reinforced carrier on my 2012 with a 315/70-17. It was really stout. My 2022 with the XR package and 315/70-17 tires came with the Mopar reinforced carrier. I don't think it's as stout as the Teraflex carrier, but Jeep says it will handle the 315/70-17 tire size that came on the vehicle, so that's good enough for me. I don't do a lot of crazy off-roading anyway that bounces or jerks the Jeep, so I'm sure it will be fine.

I was on the stock Sport carrier when I had 35s. I got the Teraflex once I moved up to 37s. My tires + wheels come in at about 100lbs now.

I never had issues with the 35s, but the tailgate was started to sound a little bit creaky every time I opened and closed it.

I have the Taraflex mount and gait reinforcement and love it.

Isn’t the tire supposed to be snugged up tight to the tailgate reinforcement?

It supposedly does, if not I would like to know. 8.5” 1mm wheels ordered to replace the stock ones and planned on the Teraflex to snug it back.

It does. It’s very adjustable and you can get your tire right up against the tailgate. There’s not enough room between the tire and the tailgate for me to get a finger between the two. You shouldn’t have a problem.
I don’t have a better picture at the moment.

I guess I should have worded it differently. The wheel should be snug against it the Teraflex tailgate reinforcement.

My wheels are 0mm offset / 4.75” backspace and the tire is pressed tight against it and there is about 3/4” more adjustment available to go closer (if the tire wasn’t hitting already).

@rohdawg @BDinTX — gentlemen, did you use the Teraflex 3’rd brake light mount ? If not did you find something to plug/cover the wire hole ? I would prefer to just use my light ring. Thanks ?

I am using their third brake light.
The light is a separate attachment. No hole to plug.
Here’s a better picture of how close I was able to get the tire, along with one of the third brake light attachment so you can visualize what I mean.

The Mopar relocation kit covers it up perfectly. We're running a wheel ring LED as well.

Question is
"Is the Tire Carrier also designed to carry the 35" tire"
Yes (especially BFG considering their size and weight). The brake light on the stock carrier is also adjustable for 35" tires.

From watching the install video there is an oval wire hole on the camera stalk for the light connection, that crap and water would get in if the light isn’t used ?

I wouldn't say the light does an effective job of covering up that hole. Water can still get in, mostly when washing, but I didn't notice too much other junk in there. Probably because it's at the back of the vehicle inside a wheel.

The pest is back, size is hard to judge from a pic but if I got an extra center cap and managed to drill out the center without ruining it. You think it would stick out enough to cover ?
