On my JK, I just hide the key in a box or under the bumper or whatever every time, or a lot of times I just hide it inside the Jeep (when there's no doors/top).

I just picked up a JL Rubicon where the Remote Proximity is a required option, it's nice, but now..........if I hide my key someone could walk up unlock the door, start the Jeep and drive off.

Any ideas from surfers or anyone else leaving the key?

your interior may not survive but it would probably be fairly safe otherwise

As someone owns and has owned Rottweilers, you are correct the interior would be destroyed but the thief would be licked and slobbered on to the point of giving up.

Right. Like a surfer would have a friend....
Well, there's always that girl from last night that he chewed half his arm off to get out from under before morning.

I have my spare Fob/key for my basic Sport wrapped in foil, in a Faraday Bag, in a Ziploc bag, tucked into a spot on the outside of the Jeep. There are several such places, be creative !

The big FOB has a RFID chip in the corner that is about the size of a bug's ass in your taquito. That chip will start your JL if held in very close proximity to the start pushbutton while pushing it in.

Yes , you can turn off proximity locks, I have them turned off on mine currently. In the menu on the Uconnect screen. Also, I go fishing & worry about losing the key or getting the fob wet (not a lot of room in the waders). But, I have a small backpack with lures, so I have a water tight Plano box that I keep the key in. So, I would suggest, just turn off proximity when you get to the beach. Put, fob in faraday bag & hide in Jeep. Have extra key made (or take it out of the fob) & keep that around your neck or tied somewhere on your person. I have a fob & the key retainer from Threedom, they are great!

As for the mirror, if you are hearing the whistle noise with the top off, then it probably is the mirror, especially since you state it looks like the plastic cover is not snapped together completely. I would look there first & then make sure the mirror is on the door good & tight. If that's not it...

Get some painter's tape & start taping up seams in the plastic around the mirror & where the mirror attaches to the door, until the whistle goes away. You should be able to narrow that down & then fix it permanently.

My 2 cents, err make it 3 cents because of inflation.

I can't wait for them to release the software update that requires a code on the screen to unlock the vehicle to start it. Like a smartphone.

I have just stuck mine in a ziplock and put in my pocket. My trunks have a zippered pocket.

It's big enough where you could put a skeg on it and surf it ?

Ok, one more time because "no pix, it didn't happen".

1) Get one of the reduced size FOBs from Threedom.

2) remove the RFID chip from your old FOB housing (see below)

3) figure out how to carry that tiny little chip in a waterproof manner, in your wetsuit. You could even incapsulate the chip in epoxy glue to seal it and attach it to something to go on a key ring.

I drilled a 3/32 dia hole using a pin vise and it pushed out as the drill broke through. But a 1/32 or 1/16 hole with a variable speed drill motor should work just fine. just don't push hard, its just plastic. I drilled the hole instead of trying to remove it from the other side, because of all the difficulties others have posted about removing the chip. As you can see it easily came out.

4) hold that little chip within a 1/2" of the start button while pushing to start. THAT'S IT!
