My only other experience with a transfer case selector was on a 96 Ram 2500. It was really easy to select drives as the stick was about 30" long and had mega leverage.

On my 2026 JL I have to use a lot of force to get the lever to move between all the modes.
By "a lot of force" I mean A LOT OF FORCE! Enough so that I was afraid I was going to bend the linkage.
I finally got it down and can shift in and out of 2hi and 4hi without issues (but with more force than I think I should have to use) but even following the manual I'm still having issues with 4hi to neutral, neutral to 4lo and back up to 4hi.

Is this normal or am I just getting weak in my old age?

Brand new, they are pretty stiff. You're using the proper procedure for 4hi to 4 lo right???
Just give it a good yank, and it will loosen up. ;)

There have been many threads on this over the years.

It's really tight until you shift it several times.

Yes VERY stiff transfer case shifting when new!
For 4 low stop, shift tranny into neutral, then with foot on brake it requires a VERY firm shifting pull to get into low and sometimes ime took couple jiggling shifter around slightly, brake off and back on, then another firm pull or two! Much better now, but still a firmer tcase shift than I've ever experienced on other 4x4s.

Even 2Hi to 4Hi and back was quite stiff when new.

Read the owners manual. For 4 Lo you need to be in neutral and rolling to make it easier to shift. Otherwise you just gotta grab the shifter and pull it like you mean it.

Most people don't let the vehicle roll a little. If you're having problems getting into 4Lo then release the brake a little and let it roll some. I think the owners manual even says that.
Yep- since the first no fault, no linkage twin sticks sometimes a slight roll was needed for low range.

I’ve never needed to roll. It was difficult at first. You’re not going to break anything. Over time it will get easier and you will get the hang of it. As others have said, shift it with some intent. Or hit it with your purse.

Haha. I leave my purse at home on the weekends. As far as rolling, it all depends on if you are rolling with or against the rotation of the earth. If you are rolling with the rotation of the planet, you will never have enough momentum to shift it. That's also why it is easier when it's a full moon.

Terry, you beat me by a few minutes to the “purse” thing, except I was going to say “stop clutching your purse and use both hands!”😂

Thx guys, yes I sat there blocking the fireroad, read the manual and watched the video to make sure I was doing it correctly.

You're totally correct. The 2hi to 4hi did get better or I was getting used to using more force.

Once I got it into neutral (it wouldn't go straight to 4lo) then I found the trick to get into and out of 4lo.

My brain kept going back to when my wife bent the linkage on my inlaws Patriot and they couldn't get it to change drives anymore. (She thought it was the E-brake lever)

At least I know its normal and (maybe) it won't break.
Now to get it in more dirt and start using it like it should be...
Thx

Yes people often overlook the position they are at relative to the equator and the Coriolis Effect.
