David: in contrast to the OEM Torx 20 bolts, the vendor's are Phillips head, right? Worst case it shouldn't be too hard to find countersunk equivalents online or in a big box store, agreed?
I would think so. I'm surprised they aren't part of the package "if" the Phillips head screws do indeed make contact with the visor. I'm guessing that the Phillips head screws come close but do not actually make contact with the visor assembly. We should know soon.

I must be doing it wrong. I tried to install the 2-screw clip. The inboard Philips head screw prevents the visor from sliding all the way to the outboard position, which in turn prevents the visor from engaging the clip at the other end. Anyone tell me where I messed up?

@ralphgb

I have no experience with the 2 screw offering. I installed the 1 screw offering... I posted early on that I was concerned of a rub/fit issue, etc. with the 2 screw offering...

There is no way you could have installed that incorrectly... There seems to be a design flaw lets call it with the 2 screw offering.. not forgiving enough to allow for different tolerances.. The manufacturer will have to address that.

Do ASAP, go to eBAY messaging and message the seller.... include the pics of your install.
Let him know about this. I would also give him the link to this thread/your post.

I have installed the two screw style now. Compare the three pics: 1) single screw, 2) double screw with visor slid all of the way to the shortest position (some contact with screw head), and 3) Visor slid slightly longer (no contact with screw head). Personally I like the two screw solution and I have no concern whatsoever about the contact. A little bit of a balancing act to install the two screw setup one screw at a time. Just need to move the visor around to get a straight shot at the screw head with a screwdriver. I'm happy.

Thanks for bringing this fix to the forums. I installed one set on my bride's 2021 JL this weekend. It took all of 5 minutes to do both sides, and the directions were first class. I bought 2 sets, so I have one for the 2022 JLU in Gobi that I haven't ordered yet.

I know this company (TACCOM) from my life in the firearms industry, and this product is inline with other products from the company.

Something seems off. The angle of your visor hanger looks angled up. Are they both this way? There is a another posting by QC22 (following yours) that shows the 2 screw option and it looks fine, but the angle of the hanger looks a little different from yours. Have you attempted to reinstall it again? Perhaps it is not properly seated?

Looks good! That definitely snugged it up! Thanks for following up and letting us know these can be installed with no contact, provided the visors are positioned away from the screw.

Looks like a solid fix for this issue. Did you purchase/install the original one screw or new & “improved” two screw reinforcement clips?

I bought the original. The visor isn't broken yet, this was a preventive measure. So I think the 2-screw product is overkill.

Thanks. As a preventative measure you may be right-time will tell. Although I don't yet have one in hand, I don't know how the two screw would be considered overkill if or when the factory retainer fails. From an engineering perspective one screw does not have 1/2 the holding power as the two screw. Since these are known to commonly break I would want to be as secure as possible. Reading the comments it's not "if" the visors will break, it's when they will break.
*If you review OC22's original photo you can see that the one screw is extremely compromised and the clip itself was overloaded, once the visor broke. In his case the 2 screw repair was everything but overkill. One extra screw and 10.00 seems to be cheap insurance for non failure.

Just my .02!

Just ask @cosine he knows!
From all the pics I've seen the 2 screw set is the clear winner, seems like a very solid mount. Seems like a very proactive vendor too, nice to see that as it's rare these days!

So I’m the guy that owns TACCOM……originally came up with the fix as a DIY and figured why the heck, I can sell this too!!
Anyways…..I still think the original is all you need to secure the visor. The heavy duty one…..after the original offering, I did change the screws to countersunk ones. Seems that the clearance was all over on the visors and having the heads stick out on the one side could cause an issue……on mine, I had no issues. But I was contacted by a couple people that had an issue, so I changed it up and made it better.

Thanks for the reply Tim, would be great if all vendors were so responsive. Hope you & yours have a very Merry Christmas!
