There is a condition not allowing ESS to function. You might be able to scroll through the menu using your steering wheel buttons to see the specific reason.

Could be the aux battery is not charging properly.

Probably need a dealer visit if it does not correct itself.

A chance ..... is worht a try ...... but more then one JL owner here remedied this issue by:

Go to the fuse box (power distribution center) next to the main battery and take the cap off. Now, press down firmly on every fuse and relay in there. You will find fuses and relays there that are not seated properly.

Now, trickle charge your JL. Allow the trickle charger to work non-stop for 12-16 hrs..

If after doing the above, you still have the evic message, do make an appointment with your dealership service department.

Note: If the ESS/Aux battery (not your JL's main battery) is depleted for any reason or is defective, etc. you will see the evic message you are seeing. Sometimes just getting a proper charge on the ESS/Aux battery will remedy the issue. IF the ESS/Aux is lets say shot or there is a bad relay, what I have encouraged you to do will not be a remedy.

@Jeepsterfreak I scrolled through the menu buttons from the steering wheel and it doesn't tell me anything.

@Rhinebeck01 I checked and pushed down every fuse and relay and it seems to be ok. What's a trickle charge?

For the last one, you have to go over 5 mph before it will start working.

There are numerous reasons that the stop start system doesn't activate. It doesn't mean it's broken. Check your owner's manual.

@Joltes

From what I have read here on the forum, read elsewhere, and from info I gleaned from tech's at a couple of dealerships, the ESS/Aux can just get depleted to a point where the ESS Disable message appears. IF the ESS gets depleted enough the JL will not start even if the JL's main battery is fully charged.

As your your manual snip indicates, "low battery" is a lets call it a trigger (one trigger of a few) for ESS disable...

Usually, a few hours driving will be enough to get the ESSAux battery charged up enough by the alternator, so that the ESS disable message goes away...if indeed the message was triggered by "low battery".

Using a trickle charger on the JL for 12 or so hours will for sure get the ESS/Aux battery properly charged unless there is an issue with the ESS/Aux battery itself.

Oh, what the tech's mentioned to me.... JL's that have been sitting on the lots for weeks will see that message.... ESS disable message triggered. They place vehicle on charger and of course ESS disabled message goes away. IF after trickle charging the message does not go away they look into the possibility of a bad ESS/Aux relay or bad ESS/Aux battery.

In closing.......... IF I had the ESS disable message and all in the manual was met that would trigger the turn ESS to disable, I would try to remedy the ESS disable with trickle charging. IF trickle charging did not do the trick then to the service dept. the JL would go.

--- I mentioned the trickle charging in my earlier post. I also mentioned the need to firmly seat all fuse and relays as their not be properly seated can cause electrical issues that may / could deplete the batteries, etc..

Not sure why you directed that at me, as I didn't say you were incorrect. I tagged Jeepney18 because the pictures he posted showed conditions that were described in the manual as normal for the ESS to be deactivated, but he seemed to be unaware of these conditions. He may have no problem at all, and was confused by the information screen giving messages that seem like "errors".

@Joltes

I was just building the case so to speak for your depicted manual list of reasons for ESS to shut. Your bringing the list to the thread was a rea plus. Guess, I wanted to expound so to speak on the "low battery" mentioned on the list.

This is what my Rubicon shows at the start up screen, which signifies that there is an error of some sort. The other messages, I believe, are just advising that the ESS is deactivated.

I have narrowed mine down to a problem with the drivers door. If it is unplugged, I don't get the error.

I unplugged my door, and bingo, the light didnt come on. Guess that means something in the door is triggering the error??
