Is there an easy way to know if you have the small start stop battery or the 48v battery under the seat?

I have a 2021 JLUR with a 3.6.

Do you have an alternator (shown in the picture below)? If so, you have an aux battery under your passenger fender.

If you don't have an alternator you have an eTorque engine and you have a 48V mild-hybrid battery under your Jeep opposite of your gas tank and no aux battery under your passenger fender. The eTorque engine will also have two battery coolant tanks on the drivers side of the engine (the picture below doesn't extend far enough to see them but the picture after that shows them).

If you don't know if you have an alternator, post a picture of your engine.

If you have an alternator this is what your aux battery box looks like after you pull off the passenger fender (shown in the photo with the battery housing box screws removed to expose the battery)

You can search the forum for a better picture

Yes this is the least confusing way Take 10 seconds and look under your Jeep. If you see that box (noted with the red arrow) you have a 48 volt etorque battery under the Jeep and an EMPTY small secondary battery box in the inner fender.

Your Jeep with a 3.6 could only come from the factory with either a 48 volt etorque battery under the Jeep OR a small secondary 12 volt auxilIary battery in the inner fender.

Not trying to be a dick but there are many good threads and pics including pinned threads In the Battery Talk forum. If you aren’t sure take a quick pic and post it of the underside of your Jeep from the rear differential looking toward the front of the Jeep for confirmation,

I find popping the hood easier than getting under the Jeep. Then again, I am old and have bad hips. Haha.

its the getting back up off the ground because gravity is a bitch. Last snow run I went down an embankment to hydrate a tree , stepped on a slick rock under the snow, took off like an Olympic downhill skier, then stopped just as suddenly looking skyward. Spectacular. Only my pride was hurt. You know your true friends are the ones who laugh the loudest
