I'm sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere but i could not find a thread with this specific issue.

I love my 2021 Rubicon. I hate the auto start/stop and the fact you can't disable it without it resetting every time you start the vehicle. I guess I will consider the tazer thing but was hoping I'd just get used to it.

Aside from getting used to the concept of it etc, about 25% of the time I get an alert chime and the following message upon restarting and driving off:
"Stop/Start to Restart Push Clutch or Shift to Neutral". The car starts and drives off no problem but the chime is more annoying than the stop/start function itself. I cannot figure out why it happens, seems like maybe when I drive off fast (like quickly push clutch / engage first / drive off). If I deliberately push the clutch and drive off in a more deliberate fashion it never happens but who wants to have to think about what they are doing when driving off. Anybody else have this problem? I am trying to make pushing the start/stop off button a routine like putting on my seatbelt but hasn't happened yet.

So I figured out today what makes this error message occur.
Apparently when stop/start is enabled and the engine is off the gear box behaves as if the clutch is engaged. So if you attempt to shift while stopped you are able to freely move the shifter into gear. I guess as i was driving off I was putting slight pressure on the shifter to push it into first at the same time I was pushing the clutch in. If I happened to shift into first before I engaged the clutch I would get the error message. If stop/start is disabled it behaves like a normal MT in that if you try to push the shifter into first it won’t go until you engage the clutch.

Not sure why this would be the case but least I know why it happens until I get the smartstopstart because no matter how hard I try I can’t remember to push the button when I first start the car and am inevitably annoyed at the first light I get to.

After thinking about this it makes total sense - you can shift gears while the engine is off at a stop/start event just like you can when the car is totally off. The alert message is just another annoyance -- its almost like getting a warning when you start the car in first gear vs neutral.

Pretend you are paying yourself $10 every time you press the ESS button to Off each time you start your Jeep. In 10 starts, you have trained your Brain, and saved the price of the Gizmo.
Worked for me.

Yeah, I've had this happen a few times to me. It seems to happen at the most inopportune times and it is a bit confusing when it happens. I like most people disable Auto Stop Start at my first stop as a matter of habit now when my first light turns green.

That's about how I did it, although I didn't count the number of times before it became automatic. People freak out about pressing a little button that is right next to the gear selector when they reach to take it out of park, yet they don't seem to have a problem with pressing a similar button to start the engine.

Here's my free ESS mod:
