The bracket left behind there just has a few very small screws holding it to light.

Was the surrounding metal damaged?

There appears to be one pry mark on left, and bracket appears to be snapped where nylon bolt threads in.

Bracket is cheap so thief wasn’t worried about that piece.

Do you have BSM? The radar module is about $140, $150.

I have wondered about this in the past. LED lights with BSM, very expensive and can be removed from a soft top in probably a couple of minutes (without damage) by a “pro”

I also wonder about led headlights. More difficult, for sure, but if somebody wants....

What a shame. Very sorry this happened to you.

I have video covering my driveway, and f/r dashcams that sense and record when parked.

My dream car has been violated!! Thank you to the low life who stole my tail light. Also, they decided to cut the wire instead of just disconnecting the harness. I ordered the tail light ($760) , the harness ETA is end of FEBRUARY!!!! I rigged up a trailer light for now. I hope the motherf’er is happy. :angry:
I hope the motherf'er has syphillis.

Not sure if it was stolen taillight, or just vandalized. People get jealous and this trend will never stop.

The restraining bolt is a piece of soft plastic. It's so easy to bend or snap.
@pianomankd

Yes, I know the white nylon/plastic retaining bolt is easily broken, especially if you over tighten it.

What I want to know is if you say give the tail lite a good, forceful yank, lets say will the white retainer bolt just break and release the tail light.......leaving no damage to the tail light?

Perhaps the guy that stole this tail light could respond here and let us all know... :facepalm:

At least yours was worth stealing. Some asshole took the taillight assembly from my old Toyota pickup while I was in a movie.

$760? I guess that’s because of the proximity sensor? Did that include the wiring harness?

The wiring harness is separate -not sure ow much that is yet

@joeyjoejoe285

How did they go about releasing the tail lights? Did they enter the JL and unbolt each tail light restraining bolt or did they pry them from the outside and snap the nylon restraining bolt?

We had another NY guy report last week that this also happened to his JL. I thought he was bullshitting. as it was his first post here on the forum.
They just pried it from the outside doing zero damage except the small scratch on the left but that will be covered by the light when re-ninstalled

What a waste. In a lot of countries they do horrific things to this type of criminal.

On a side note, - I tried to get mine off to replace the gas door and it took me an hour......

Guess there has to be a compromise on securely designing equipment from being stolen to having reasonable cost for making it. The JK rear lights were 20 seconds to remove so at least Jeep made an effort to improve the security on the JL. I know there was an epidemic in larger cities of cat converters on Honda Elements because Honda used more platinum in them. They would use battery-powered sawzalls, crawl under the car and 60 seconds later gone. Those were expensive to replace. Companies made security changes to add onto the converters to try to reduce theft. Cities also passed ordinances from recyclers buying them without proof of ownership.
Does your insurance pay for some of it?

Report it to the police on the off chance that a fingerprint was left on the vehicle.
