Go back and re-read. It wasn’t a comparison. I said that a Bronco can ride fast on rutted out roads my crosstrek could probably navigate. You’re not going to do 60 down Pritchett Canyon in a Bronco, but you might fly down parts of long canyon (if you were alone and not worried about hitting someone in oncoming traffic).

Never did I write that Crosstrek and Bronco are equally capable, nor really even directly compare the two.

ā€˜Twas merely a way of saying that the type of 4wheeling that the Bronco appears built to excel at, just happens to not be the type that interests me. I don’t care to fly down a washboard road, I like to crawl obstacles. Bronco just isn’t going to be as capable at that as Wrangler (hence my choice of vehicle). I could afford both, but I don’t see a place for Bronco in my garage. Me personally, I’d get a 4Runner to do a Bronco’s work. But I don’t have one of those either, nor do I plan to.

My wife thinks the 2dr Bronco is cute as a button though, and she’d buy one if it was proven reliable. So maybe there’s one in my future.
Maybe i read you wrong then. Also I've seen Broncos online do pretty big rock obstacles that I wouldn't do with either of my vehicles. It's just as capable. Just applies it differently.

I'm not going to get into a Jeep vs Bronco debate because I like both for different reasons. I will say the 2 door Bronco is definitely a different animal then the 4 door. With a wheelbase of 100 inches it's literally perfect. Not too long and not to short.

It was kind of a clickbait title too.

But otherwise If he's running the official YouTube for the dealership I'd kind of expect him to promote it.

Ok. But people are lifting them and putting them on 40s and keeping up with Jeeps. Moab, Rubicon, Windrock... they're doing it all, a lot even stock. I understand the SFA vs IFS argument... but if the Bronco can still conquer the obstacle, people might start having other things be the deciding factor... like infotainment, comfort, style...

Either way, people who own both are probably able to give pretty objective reviews, so I'm looking forward to what @JeepViking13 has to say after a while wheeling both =)
Sure. But almost anything can be modded to go almost anywhere. A Wrangler can be made to better compete with a Bronco on extremely rough roads by lowering air pressure. A Bronco can’t be made to compete better with a Wrangler on a tough rock crawl without extensive suspension mods. Though that may not necessarily be the case if Ford decides to re-engineer some stuff as factory equipment for future models. Only time will tell.

Both vehicles are capable as-is for probably 90+% of the market, but from what I’ve seen, Wrangler is the clear winner when it comes from a strictly off-road capable perspective. If your going for the soccer mom daily driver perspective, the winner isn’t as clear.
That being said, if GM brought back the K5 Blazer reminiscent of the square body of the 70’s through the 90’s, I’d dump my Rubicon in a flash and go buy one, especially if they’d ditch the leaf springs and go with coils.

From a 4 door perspective, a lot of people are glossing over the fact that the Bronco has a 2" shorter wheelbase than the JLU. It can make a difference in some scenarios. I think the 2 doors are the opposite tho... Bronco is 2" longer.

True, but I think the Wrangler does bet

Great post until it blew up in a flaming wreck at the end. Having owned a K5 Blazer that was the worst vehicle I've ever owned in 45 years of owning vehicles I'd take a hard pass on anything w/a K5 on the side. But hey, to each his own :)

Jason, have you taken the top off your Bronco yet, would like to see pics of that if you have any, IMO Ford really did a nice job w/ the overall 2 dr styling, especially pics of it w/ the top removed.

No doubt. Its actually a dilemma I'm having with myself. Sell it and make the profit now. Or keep it and make YouTube content with both vehicles. It's also not easy to wait for a vehicle for over 2 years and then finally get it just to let it go. Especially something like the Bronco.
No doubt.

FWIW, I have my own personal ā€œBronco journey.ā€

Four years ago I had a falling out with my Jeep dealer. It was so bad that I seriously considered a Ford Bronco. I even started a Bronco thread on another Jeep forum, which is still going on to this day.

But after 18 months into it, of reading of Ford delaying the launch time after time, seeing Ford release computer ā€œenhancedā€ videos of Broncos out in the wild, create fake social media channels, arm-twist and punish YouTube content creators into touting an ā€œofficialā€ line, I finally had enough.

I make a living as a marketing analyst for the automakers, so no doubt I am more sensitive to these issues than the average buyer. I am well aware of the games automakers play. IMO, Ford brings dishonesty to a totally new level. And I believe a lot of it comes from Jim Farley himself.

In any event, Ford soured me on Bronco before it even hit the showrooms, and decided that switching Jeep dealers was preferable than ditching Jeep altogether and going after the new, unproven kid on the block. So I went ahead and bought new 2018 JL right before the end of 2019.

After that came the Bronco launch, the hardtop issues, Ford throwing its suppliers under the bus, dealers pulling all sorts of games, ICE mountain, complaints that the soft top didn’t seal out the weather, the frameless windows first rattling, then freezing; engines exploding, tie rods breaking, etc., etc.

Clearly, Jeep is no paragon of reliability or customer service, but seeing how Ford has handled Bronco has made me appreciate Jeep better and count my blessings.

When I see the unfolding drama Ford subjects its customers through, all I can do is watch, scratch me head, and feel relieved I dodged that bullet.

Thankfully, my Sahara has turned out solid and my new dealer pretty acceptable.

I personally am looking forward to the OP's comparison content, and as a complete newcomer to the offroad community (whenever my Jeep gets delivered, that is) I'm happy to see Ford considering the market is attractive enough to launch a new vehicle where previously Jeep had no direct competitor to the JL.

Also, I opted to get the 4xe and will be intrigued to see if Ford ends up adding a PHEV or even the F-150 Lightning powertrain to the Bronco. I'm on camp Jeep and I expect to remain here for many years; I'm unsure the Bronco can build the community and aftermarket support quickly. Those two would be key to any newbie like me, I would think!

Aside from the frame cracking at the steering box and the hood folding in half at the hinges, I never had an issue with either of mine. ?Though I will say that I’ve had my Jeep on some trails that would be near impossible in a Blazer without body damage due to the extra width. Articulation with leaf spring suspension is also a limiting factor for hardcore stuff. Probably wouldn’t be an issue for what I typically do.

I can’t imagine what the hell they were thinking with that thing. A diesel without forced induction is like a Jeep with square headlights. ?
