Hello, I just bought a 2025 Jeep Wrangler Willys, this is my 1st Jeep purchase. I notice it has wander in the steering. Is this normal? If so how much wandering is normal? I can be driving on a straight road and still have to constantly correct the steering wheel as it will wonder to the left and right to the point it looks like I am drunk. It will not stay straight after taking hands off the wheel. Also noticed the steering wheel is off center.

If not normal, is there a fix or something I should tell the dealer to check?

If you wonder why your Willys wanders - well....

Check your tire pressure, a lot of new deliveries are overinflated. Most seem to find that 34ish psi works well.

I did forget to add I do have tire pressure at 35 psi which did not help.😔

If your steering is off center too, get an alignment. Could have slipped toe which can make it jumpy.

I do have it scheduled for alignment at dealer next week. Hopefully its a simple fix like toe or caster

Only toe and steering wheel alignment is adjustable with stock parts.

Depending on how bad it is, yes it's normal. The steering and axle geometry of the Wrangler is totally different than almost anything else on the road, especially any cars.

I don't know how bad is bad and whats normal but in my opinion it's pretty bad. I don't feel I should have to constantly correct to steering to stay straight and swerving in the lane is common if not constantly correcting

You need to drive a new one, or have someone who has had Wranglers drive it to compare.

I will say, some modifications (lifts, tires) can and will cause ALOT of wander. Also worn out parts can cause it.

Is your Jeep modified at all, and how many miles (sorry if I missed this)?

Brand new 2025, 1st owner and all stock, no aftermarket parts or modifications.

I just purchased a 25 4dr Willys also. It has the same issue with slight wandering. I’ve driven multiple trucks with suspension lifts from 6-10” lifts & up to 38” Super Swampers & never felt any drifting or wandering feeling like this is.

Is yours to the point where it does not stay straight when taking hands off the wheel? It's a constant correction and kinda tiring having to try and keep it straight all the time. I have read multiple post/forums and some say its normal and some say its not. A lot of people say theirs does not wander and is straight as can be. 🤷

My JL drives pretty good but we have very bad roads here and the tires will be affected by the unevenness of the pavement. They seem to follow the path of least resistance. You can see this if you look at 4x4’s driving on the beach, if the tracks veers in either direction chances are your vehicle will follow the track. The tracks on the beach are very aggressive and highly exaggerated compared to a street but it shows the effect. We have a street in the neighborhood that has grooves from the weight of the cars and trucks and the old age of the pavement.
