21K miles.
285-17, Nitto Tires with 2k miles, with possible signs of minor cupping. 34 PSI
Fox Steering Stabilizer.
No lift.

Tires were re-balanced.
Recent alignment check, was in spec. Done by local off road shop, Jeep Specialists.
Tracks pretty well on the highway, but has a vibration through the steering wheel.

They said the Drag Link Ends have play.
Steering Gear Sector Shaft has play at the Pitman Arm.
Mentioned the steering TSB.
No mention of worn Tie Rod or Track Bar.

The Tie Rod and the Drag Link can be oscillated when I twist them by hand, with some effort.
I did re-torque...they still move.

Took it to the dealership.
I demonstrated this to the Service Advisor.

I checked my loaner Wrangler 41K miles, does the same thing, but no vibration when driving
Is this Tie Rod, Drag Link movement normal?

They a are replacing the Track Bar, no mention of any other components
It's hard to be confident when there's a conflicting diagnosis
Anybody else experience this?

Tie Rod, Track Bar, Drag Link and the TSB, lots of culprits and expert opinions.

FYI, I'm a expert too... at getting screwed by experts.

I'm good if the new Track Bar does the fix.

Doing some research, looks like Rusty's Off Road components are the way to go, when I'm through with OEM junk.

I pick it up today, fingers crossed.
Thanks!

Sounds like a balancing issue to me. Does the vibration occur above certain speed?

I know of some tires that are extremely difficult to balance properly. A 285/70R17 tire shouldn't be giving much issues, though.

I had the OE tire rod and drag link replaced on my 2013 Rubicon and 2014 Sahara with a YETI kit (Rubicon) and a Currie set (Sahara). It greatly improved how the Jeep tracked on the freeway, but it had no bearing on any vibration.

Hope they figure it out.

:LOL::LOL::LOL:

FWIW, "experts" are a dime a dozen these days; especially on the internet...

Highway speed.
Tire balance was the first thing I did.
Just got home from the dealer.
New Track Bar did the fix, no vibration and it tracks great!
No charge.

Sometimes a tire will balance good but still have a vibration. I've had some tires over the years like that and found out of round issues.

Also, there is a relatively new procedure they can perform called a road force check. It's a measured rolling force they apply with the better tire balancers out there. The wheel is measured for any runout and then the tires road force is checked. The wheel runout and tire road force are then compared. The machine's readout shows the steps to mark a wheel and tire to align them to cancel out the road force variation.

Recently had new mud terrain tires installed and they used this procedure.

Yes, the tie rod and drag link will always have some flop to them.
