2018 2.0 with Etorque 68000 miles

I had a no crank/start condition last weekend. Tested the battery (optima yellow top) and it was all good. Proceeded to check every relevant fuse and relay. I even swapped identical relays between spots to see if any were bad. No CELs and no warnings from the dash.

At this point I had it towed to the dealer. Yes, they are more expensive but I trust this service department. I thought it was going to be a software issue honestly. Turns out I needed a new starter. That surprised me the most as I have other vehicles that are at least twice as old that have never needed a starter.

I don't do deep mud or water crossings and I keep my unit well maintained so I was very surprised with it needing a new starter.

Dealer price for the starter I think was around 350. Total bill with labor, tax, supplies, was $1209.

Yes, I could have done this repair myself but all in all it was at the dealer for only 48 hours, I didn't have to spend a whole Saturday on it, and now all is right with it.

We had in a 2019 Sonata and the starter went south. Plus low mileage. The replacement had a sticker on it telling you to not strike it with a hammer.

Did you have any symptoms prior to it nit starting? Like a noise/clunk when when starting? Every so often I get a clunk noise when starting and wonder if it may be a starter issue coming on.

no, and that is why I ended up taking to it to the dealer. I honestly thought it was a software issue. There was no grinding or noise at all prior to it just not working.

Ironic that I came upon this thread. Mine is also an eTorque equipped 2018 with about 62k miles.

My son has had the Jeep in TX (where he's stationed) and began experiencing no start situations too. It wouldn't happen all the time, as there'd be days with no issues and then he'd have a no start. There would be no noise or anything from the starter. It acted like the battery was completely drained. The starting battery (a fairly new X2 from Batteries Plus) was checked and at 100%. It would start after a jump (from another vehicle or a battery pack), which made me think it was also some kind of software issue/glitch. This has been happening since the beginning of July. He had it scanned at an Autozone and the scanner said "Bad Starting System - Cranking RPM Fail".

Two weeks ago he deployed to Poland so my wife went down and drove the Jeep back to NV. She also had a no start situation outside of Phoenix while getting gas.

It is scheduled to go in to the dealer in a week for them to look at it. Unfortunately I am also out of the country and will be until mid-September. I am hoping the repair is covered under my extended warranty, but if it turns out to be the starter it won't be. I'd rather replace the starter myself as I hate paying the exorbitant labor costs for something so simple to do.

it's through the passenger fender liner but you have to remove that engine mount to get it out. Not the hardest job. Just one I opted to pay someone else to do for me
