Sir what does it mean on a new JL 2023 where the run/stop will work properly as long as the air conditioner is NOT running, the second i turn on the air the run/stop will not kick in....... Any idea what that means? Thanks
It means the cabin is heating or cooling, if the demand for heat or cool is more than a set level the ESS will not engage. Where I live it is too hot for the ESS to kick in during the summer.

There is a list of conditions that must be met to allow the ESS to engage. Doors, seatbelts, hood, A/C, and the list goes on. I did notice my ESS does not activate if the A/C is on auto but will work if set on high. Good luck!

My wife’s 2018 JL’s stop/start hasn’t worked consistently since it was new. A Genesis 2X battery kit kept it working for a couple years, but even that didn’t last. The latest fix was simply reseat the fuses in the fuse box and file/wire brush all the battery connections, including the alternator monitoring sensor. Hopefully it’ll work long enough for us to trade it in on the hybrid Wrangler she wants.

Hope this helps other members having trouble with their STOP/START.

Another reason I like my ‘99 CR-V & ‘68 Buick GS400 better!

For what it's worth, I changed the auxiliary battery, and my start/stop system is working normally now. The battery size is AUX14, and was only $100 at Amazon.

If you want to give it a go, it's a DIY job that took me an hour and a bit to complete, and that was with a power ratchet.

Many of the recommendations here are to replace batteries. I don't recommend that you waste money doing this. Most of the time, this is absolutely unnecessary.

Before you swap out any battery, try disconnecting the negative battery terminals and clean them thoroughly with a wire brush -- especially the copper contacts on the IBI sensor. I find the contact surfaces tend to build up an oxide layer over time and the IBI can give false readings. Most dealership mechanics do not do this for you.

By replacinbg the battery unnecessarily, terminal wires get jiggled around in the operation and can temporarily caused the contact surfaces to properly mated up again giving you a false illusion that it was a dead battery.

And when that fails, replace your batteries. You know, like the other 98% of people needed.

Both my batteries are good and I just started seeing the Service start/stop system error. I had a dealer appointment lined up, and of course I jinxed it. I disconnected the batteries, let the IBI reset, charged them to full, and the error message has been gone ever since. Cancelled my appointment.

I've also been thoroughly testing the system since then. I don't normally use ESS (always off) but I've been driving around with it on, heavy accessory load, to try to see if one of the batteries will give up early. It's worked flawlessly. I still hate it, so, I'm going to shut it off. Issue solved (for now).
