So I have had two Jeeps before, one being a 2013 4 door Sport and the other being a 2008 2 door Sport (still have it). I have a new 2023 Jeep JLU Sport S and I wanted to see if anyone had tips or tricks to make it more reliable. I have a 2'' spacer lift with 35s on it (straight from the dealership) and wanted to make it last as long as possible. Any suggestions?

(I do plan on getting an aftermarket tire carrier and would like AEV bumpers, but worried about the weight added on)

five years on my 18 sportS. most of its miles have been lifted with 35's or 37's without issue. and most of the miles on it are long dirt trips with wash board roads and some moderate rock crawling

I gotcha. I'm some what knowledgeable when it comes to lifts, but no little to nothing about gearing. I remember for a long time I saw since I put on a 2.5'' lift and 35s on my 2 door, that I would need to get it regeared for maximum output. I was usnure if I should do this to the JLU as well

depends on your driving type. I hated the 3.45 gears in my wrangler. ( i have the manual transmission) it was a dog to drive. when i moved to 35's i found a set of rubicon axles with lockers and 4.10 gears. the 35's did pretty well on that but was still under powered for mountain driving. I also new that 35's where not going to be the tire i kept. so i went to 4.88 gears and boy that was a blast to zip around with 35's. but i feel like once i put the 37's on it matched very well with the 4.88 gearing.

I see. I do not do too much off roading. Typically go around the hunting club but nothing too extreme. Thank you for your quick responses!

I have the 3.6 V6 (wish i could've afforded the V8 haha)
if you are willing to learn and have time you can install your own gears with limited tooling, but its a steep learning curve, but once you understand it, its not that bad

Gotcha. I'll definitely give it a shot in the future. Thank you!

Best thing to do to keep it reliable is staying current with the maintenance. We have a 2010 Sport (the 3.8L that everyone loves to hate). For most of its life it has had a lift and 37" tires and has seen a lot of rough off-roading. It currently has over 200,000 miles on the original engine and transmission and still running strong (knock on wood). Oil changed every 3,000 miles.

In which case you don't need a lift. A lift makes it more difficult to drive on-road and can cause extra wear and tear. And, in my view, makes a jeep look ugly.

My two door Sport S is approaching 5 years old. It is stock standard. I only added:

- rated recovery hooks at the front
- a tailgate table
- a sunrider soft top

And I do certainly drive off road on difficult tracks.

Love my jeep!

Then you would be getting something less reliable, of all the trims, the Sport S has the least things that are prone to failures.
This is what I popped in to say - if the question is of reliability relative to other trims, the Sport and Sport S should be the most reliable by virtue of the fact that they have less stuff to break.
