Some aftermarket company needs to come up with a replacement tailgate with an embossed Jeep logo like the CJ5s and CJ7s had. Granted, a new cabin venting scheme would need to be figured out. A fold down conversion kit would be bonus.

Edit: Looks like there are a few kits out there for a JK tailgate conversion. I think it could be done better....

My package from Ace didn't include instructions. I got it installed, but I'm not digging that the parking camera lines aren't working anymore. Did this also happen to yours?

Right. It’s a pain. Ended up being a two day job because I ran into the same problem and had to call the company. I saw this vid:



Basically you have to cut the spare tire thing off. Then get a T9 star bit...I had to go back to the store, after I had to borrow my buddies saw.

I left the light wire untocuched. The brake light wire will connect. Then the camera holes need to be drilled out because the screws they give you won’t fit in the camera mount.

It seemed I ran into an issue at literally each stage of installation. Then the camera mount screws are silver.

Oh and lastly, pull the wiring out from it’s current location and run it through the little vent things. I realized this after everything was spliced and hooked up. I’m not redoing it at this time. I was frustrated enough so I just mounted it and I’m done for now. OH, and put your license plate on before mounting. We were done and realized yet again, I was like “how the hell am I going to get this plate on”.....

Thanks, Ryan. I ended up getting it on there, but didn't relocate the license plate. Ended up getting a blank plate and putting it on for now. I plan on finishing it, but the Houston sun was cooking today and I didn't have the will to stay out there any longer.

Do your parking lines still line up with the ground, or is losing that functionality just part of this plate?

Mine seemed to have worked, but haven’t drove it since I installed. They showed up when I tested to see if camera turned on. I’ll have to check when I drive it next.

I'd appreciate it. It's possible I installed the camera upside down or something, but, with the three screw pattern (one on each side and one on the bottom), I don't know how I could have.

On another note, I just got the flash cal and reset my speedo. Ahhhh finally the right speed!

GenRight makes a license plate, third brake light and camera mount for the JL as well as a swing away tire carrier and I cant decide between the two.

I ended up going into my setting turning the lines off. Kinda disappointed to lose them, but oh well.

Finally redid and hid the wiring and got my new plate. Colored the nuts and screws with a sharpie marker, so that helped. Looks a little better I guess.
