Howdy. I need to mod the spare carrier. The 4 alloys are 285/70/17 tires on 17x9 with -12 offset. The spare is a same tire but on the oem 17x7.5 +44 steel wheel. It fits the oem carrier and uses the rubber standoffs at 85# just fine. Its what the PO had.

If I replace the +44 steel with a 5th alloy at -12 offset, the wheel barrel will move outward 2" and moves away from the gate adding torsional stresses and phallic looking rubber standoffs.

Teraflex adjustable mount will only help me with in-out movement only get me a quarter-inch closer to the gate.

So - here's the question: Is there a simple shorty spare mount for guys using 0 to -18 rims. Like oem just shorter?

I don’t think there is a shorty oem carrier unfortunately.

Are you talking about the Teraflex alpha HD tire carrier? I’m curious what makes you say the Teraflex carrier will only move your spare 1/4” closer than the factory carrier? That’s crazy if true especially when most aftermarket wheels have small or negative offsets.

Most people just add bigger tailgate bumpers. I used a pipe coupler from Home Depot, slid right over OEM. Works great with my +1 offset which really isn't much different from -12.

Take a bump stop off and go to Home Depot piping section and start trying different things.

I had the Teraflex Alpha HD with my 17x9 wheels with -12mm offset and 4.53" backspace. There was plenty of adjustment range to get the tire firmly pressed into the tailgate rubbers, without having to go to a hardware store, which only fixes part of the problem.

Thank you all for the replies. My math says I'll be 2" short of touching the oem rubber standoffs. But I believe your experience Headbarcode, over my math.

Let me stay up till all hours tonight and see where my logic goes. I'd love for the mount to work.

Hi David. Well, TF has us measure from the wheel mount face to the tire wall. I measure 5.3". They say this mount works for depths of 5.00 to 8.00". So if I go with this mount, I can slide the mount back only 0.3" (about a quarter-inch) and still need to go about 2" to touch the oem standoffs. I feel my logic is off. I'm trying do this theoretically and without my slide rule.

If we're definitely speaking of the Teraflex Alpha HD adjustable carrier, I assure you it'll work. Unfortunately, I don't have side shots to show it pressed into the tailgate bumpers. Here's pics of both the stock wheels with 315/70-17 bfgoodrich ko2's and than readjusted to accommodate 17x9 wheels with -12mm offset wrapped in 38x13.5's. The carrier still had more inward adjustment range left. I'll try to remember to pull that carrier out of storage tomorrow. I can take a pic of it, as it's still adjusted for the negative offset spare.

I've got quite a takeoff pile that consists of both factory and aftermarket parts. I sorta destroyed the lower camera mounting hole in the Alpha, along with the mounting ear on the camera itself. That camera is still solidly mounted on my new carrier, despite only having the 2 upper screws attaching it. If it wasn't the wee hours of the morning after a full day and overnight install marathon, I would've extracted that screw with some delicacy. I was tired, so I drilled through the head of it with an oversized bit.

I can take some close up pics of it, and if you're interested, it's yours.
