I have a 2018 2 door sport v6, earlier this month I had a strange squeaking sound coming from what I thought was the serpentine belt or a pulley. Last year around this time I had both the belt and tensioner replaced. The sound I was experiencing this month was identical.

the part I’m confused about is that I have not heard that sound for the past couple of weeks. What would have caused the squeaking sound to go away?

I attached a clip of the sound.

Yea; sound quality on recordings sucks, but that sounds like a bad bearing on a pulley.

I apologize that sound recording isn’t up to your standard. Thank you for your response.
Sorry you misunderstood, it’s just not possible to really represent the sound of a running engine with all of its little particulars on a cell phone. The audio isn’t right. That squeaking noise sounds like a dry bearing, if you’re lucky, an idler pulley. It’s very greasy around the alternator though, the decoupler pulley may have been leaking.

I do sincerely apologize I miss interpreted your meaning.
It is the strangest thing though, the sound has completely gone away. It lasted for about a week or two then vanished. I have an appointment with the mechanic that I scheduled back when I originally started hearing the sound. I’m contemplating whether to cancel or not.

Sometimes noises do that. If they (or you) take the belt off and feel each bearing’s rolling resistance or inspect around for rust flakes or metal from a failing bearing, it should be easy enough to identify.

Your engine bay is pretty messy though, how many miles are on the Jeep?

I’m currently at 94,000 miles, I’ll be trading it most like before the summer ends. I definitely do need to give it a thorough cleaning.

Use a 3 foot stick or piece of pipe to your ear on the equipment on the engine. It will help you find the issue real quick.

In that case, why spend any money on it? Trade her off, let the dealer clean it up and fix it after trade.
