I have a 2024 392 XR and I replaced my battery and now my steering wheel rear buttons on both sides and the buttons on the front left side don't work. The cruise control buttons on the front right side work fine. The steering wheel heater also won't stay on.

I've tried resetting the radio by holding down the power button and also by the settings menu. I've tried disconnecting the battery for a couple hours. I've tried honking the horn. I've tried turning the steering wheel hard left then hard right and then back to the center. These are all suggestions by Google searches and none of them worked. I also hooked up my scanner and it's not showing any codes or stored codes.

Any ideas before I take it into the dealer? That was Google's last suggestion. Something about them having to reset the SCCM module.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't, my assumption is that it would have to blow multiple fuses for all of these systems to be out and the odds of that would be low but now you bring it up I'll check them out in the morning. Thanks for the suggestion!

Your clock spring is bad and needs to be replaced. Also know as the SCCM, steering column control module.

I thought about that but I'm curious how the clock spring goes out when I change the battery? I could see the SCCM going out or need resetting but isn't the clock spring a physical component that would have to break or burn out? I haven't changed a clock spring in 30 years so it could easily be different then what I am picturing in my mind.

Every so once in a while my steering wheel controls stop responding but come back next time I start the car up.

Our old Patriot would have issues with steering wheel buttons not responding to anything. A swift hard smack with the palm of my hand at about the 9 o clock position on the steering wheel would reset everything. Jars the clock spring enough to work again

The clock spring went out in my Gladiator while I was driving around one day, I turned out of a parking lot and heard a pop in the column and those buttons stopped working. I don’t remember the exact codes that came up with JScan but they were SCCM errors. The heated wheel wouldn’t work either.

The whole SCCM is about $500 from various online parts dealers but I found one on EBay for $289, There are several different part numbers. It is possible to change just the clock spring separate from the turn signal and wiper control section.

Has been several weeks and everything is working fine in the truck.

I have the extended warranty so it sounds like I'm going to have to take a trip to the dealer which I hate to do. I have a decent dealership they are just slow in the service department. Thanks for the ideas!

My Gladiator is still under warranty and I didn’t want to to take it in either.

Some folks have reported things not working after battery replacement, but everything comes back to life after a day or two. I’d give yourself a few drive cycles to see if everything comes back to life, before taking to dealer; as long as your extended warranty is not about to expire.

Good point. I'll give it a couple of weeks and see what happens before I take it in. It's not particularly annoying since the cruise works but I do miss my steering wheel heater when it's 20 degrees out šŸ™ƒ
