Hello,

I own a 21 JL Sahara Unlimited 2.0. Purchased it new from the dealer in May of 21. All stock and no mods. There’s about 52,000 kms on it.

Recently had it in the to the dealer to have an LED taillight replaced (driver side), and have my corrosion issue fixed, which were a few doors and rear gate hinges.

Picked up the jeep last week and noticed a small rattling sound from the back during idle that was never there before. I ignored it and carried on.
I was running some errands and noticed it seemed to be getting louder.

It sounds like the noise is coming from behind the rear passenger side cargo panel. So I YouTube’d how to remove it and decided to investigate.

First off, whoever took it apart during the rear gate hinges getting painted, didn’t bother to screw it back in place. The T20 torx screw was missing. (I believe unrelated to noise). Once apart, everything seemed in place and there was nothing obvious that looked like it could cause such a noise.

Standing outside the Jeep, you can still hear the noise but only faintly.

i made an appointment to have it checked but was wondering if anyone had a similar issue. Have attached a video of the noise below.

I figured it out.
Morons at body shop who did corrosion repairs took the tail gate off. The access points are covered with a thin layer of plastic glued to the metal.
They didn’t bother sticking them back down and they were flapping inside.

When it just has to be done right, do it yourself.

Damn - good job in tracking this down and shame on the body shop that botched it. I’m the first one to make mistakes, and I’d be ok if this happened if I did it…

if I pay someone else to do the work, I fully expect them to have a way to “avoid the blood reaching the river” as we say in Spanish. This is sth a high-school shop class teacher wouldn’t give a passing grade (well, I hope so at least)!
