I live in a place that gets some snow a couple times a year, sometimes only an inch or two, but sometimes up to a foot or two. I'm not worried about getting my jeep through it obviously, but when I do take my jeep to work, everyone else at home will be stuck there all day in their Subarus that are never getting out to the main road. So I've been trying to think of ways to help make my short private road/driveway driveable for them if we do get 1-2 feet of snow.

I already considered a plow attachment, but the risk of jacking up my frame seems too high, and also I'm not keen on installing a front hitch. Is there some kind of plow I can attach to the rear hitch and drag behind me?

Any other creative ideas? It's not something I want to spend thousands of dollars on since I may never even use it.

I've also considered maybe just driving the jeep down the road, smashing two tire tracks in it, move over a foot and drive back, move over a foot and drive again... Maybe I can smash down the snow enough for the poor little Subarus to be able to get through.

Subarus can't make it through 2' of snow? When I had my Evo (think Subie WRX STi equivalent) for over a decade I never had my driveway plowed and just brute-forced my way through and/or over any heavy snow. Whether going forward or backwards, the crazy little low-slung thing never once got stuck with just all-seasons, though sometimes it took a few tries to get up a steep grade when it was heavily packed snow and ice with deep ruts.

Might require a certain level of comfort by whoever's driving, but I'm thinking your Subarus are more of a beast in the snow than you're giving them credit for.

If it were me driving a Subaru I'd be all for that, but I don't think the folks in the Subarus in question here quite have that kind of snow driving confidence

I know you said you didn’t want to spend a lot of money but I’m going to throw this out there for the hell of it. I just saw a video of this and now I really want one, it also mows lawns and can patrol your property as remote video surveillance.

Contract a seasonal plow truck service. Inexpensive for a short driveway, nothing to store or maintain, not your problem if something gets destroyed. Do it by the season and make sure that you get a guarantee that they’ll plow within x hours every time there’s more than x” of snow .
If you do it by the season then you won’t have to worry about finding someone every time there’s a big dump.
Don’t worry if it’s a dry winter and they don’t have to plow… you would have spent way more on equipment that would just be sitting around.
Better yet, just teach the Subaru drivers how to drive in the snow… they need to know how once they get to the end of the driveway anyway.

For twice a year? Just give them your phone number to help pull them out if they get stuck and call it a day. :)

My 2 stage Ariens is the right tool for the job (my 100’ driveway). I’ve always heard plowing is rough on your vehicle, not sure I’d want to do that.

Don't worry about the Subaru drivers... They made their choice, let them live with it.

I should have mentioned, I live with the Subaru drivers, and I work 90 minutes away from home... so neither of those options will make me very popular at home

I think I'll probably just just take the earlier suggestion to hire a plow during the once or twice a year I might need one, in the end it probably costs less than any other option.
