Regarding those controller mount little screws and “L” brackets...yeah I f’d them up too. Heavy zip tie in place until I called Smittybilt for replacements. They shipped me new screws and “L” brackets without even a pause or question. They did advise me to loosen the cross rods (with the word “Smittybilt” on it) to allow the controller unit to better fit in between THEN secure the brackets with the little screws. I just received my replacements today so I’ll swap them out tomorrow. The Smittybilt rep was incredibly nice and helpful.

You're not kidding. I removed the bumper, installed Rusty's plate and wired the !@#$!% rig in the same time it took me to get those goofy little screws and L-brackets to seat. I wasn't aware of this "trick" and may need to go back and re-seat them. Thanks for sharing!

My OCD was going into overdrive with the wires being visible above the bottom of the grille so fixed that today.

I'm pretty sure that the 10K lb. X2O comp is that model I will go with whenever I finally get my jeep. Thanks for this thread with tips and tricks to make my install easier.

Got mine on tonight with the rusty plate as well. Flip up license plate.

I was able to find the mounting plate for the winch but couldn't find the flip up license plate holder. Would you happen to have a link?

Installed my X20-10k today. Took a little longer than I was planning trying to get the wiring how I wanted it and since I was doing it solo. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Just need the mounting brackets for the Mopar lights and the front end is done.

I bought from Rusty’s for the winch plate. eBay for the winch and Cascadia for the plate holder.

Just got my Warn JL winch plate in for the stock steel bumper from 4 wheel parts and a Smittybilt X20 10,000 winch. Hopefully it'll fit.

Did this install yesterday. My first time working on a Wrangler. Took about 3 hrs including a trip to Home Depot for deep sockets.

Wiring tip - I used a bent coat hanger to help pull through the wires.

Hi guys. Im just planning my Winch purchases here while im waiting for my 2 door. I've never installed one before. Looking to hit up the Smittybuilt with the Rusty Plate, seems like a solid combination. Is there anything else I need to add to my basket?

Saw a tree friendly strap which seems like a good idea, what else? Do you guys buy that flip up license plate holder separate?
