Do you believe the square tubing makes the lod stronger? Anyone else have the Smittybilt bend up on them?
I had the SBs for a few months when I first got my JL as the lady really wanted a wide step; took them on one trip to Peters Mill Run (possibly one of the easiest trails in the nation that isn't just a fire road) and on the singular rocky area (this is applied loosely) the bottom tube made contact and got dented and moved up a bit. They were removed the next weekend and swapped out for Rockhards..
I know some people use them, or similar models, and treat them as a disposable but if you're worried at all about integrity of the units and them making body contact i'd look elsewhere.

I confess to buying these Chinese sliders off of Amazon. They were extremely stout and very heavy — and about one-third of the price of the American made alternative from a company in Michigan. I had myself convinced to buy the American ones until they told me it would take “eight to twelve weeks“ to ship. Apparently, they were as busy as they wanted to be.

I don’t think anybody has confused Smittybuilt with quality since it was purchased out of private ownership (40 years ago?).

The stock rubi rails are known for bending into the body if you come down hard.

They appear to mount exactly the same as the lod
Look closer ... the back two mounts on the Smittybilt appear to ONLY mount to the body mount bolts. The LOD ones also bolt to the frame. The LOD would be much more rigid and should take a hit better.

Yeah it looks like it uses those 2 bolts the same but what it’s bolted to is attached to the frame right? Looks to be welded The extra bolt hole to the frame is a nice option but it’s just 1 more bolt.
If the smitty will bend up into the door I’d imagine it’s not because of the mounting but the integrity of the round tube vs the square of the LOD.

just trying to wrap my head around this. Thanks.
