I pay $5 a month for Pandora, but for some reason it's now loading really slowly after not using it for awhile. (I use it very occasionally.) Also I don't like the app running all the time using up the charge of my phone.

How fast does the Sirius XM load after not using it for a week or so?

And how do stations work? Can you make your own "band station" like you can on Pandora?

I know some really hate SiriusXM but I like it...mine has been expired for a few weeks and getting ready to take a roadtrip tomorrow for 10 days or so I decided I would call...I asked for their best rate and they came right back with "we have a special for your jeep" one year $47.88 which includes the fees and it will automatically cancel at the end of the subscription so I don't have to worry about forgetting to cancel it. $3.99 a month is worth it to me. your choice you can pay by the month or the full year.
Which SiriusXM plan?

XM on Uconnect starts up very quickly. Note that we're typically talking about the variant that's getting its signal from satellites and not an app that's using the Internet.

No, you can't create your own stations. It's more like a big collection of radio stations.

What do you mean by "using up the charge of my phone"? Just plug it in.

there are so many stations but you can pick whatever your genre of music is and have those as your favorites...there is a feature if you like a particular band or song it will alert you that they are playing. I have no issues with in loading slow on my phone if I am using it on my phone ie out hiking or mowing the lawn....otherwise I never really stream it on my phone as both vehicles have it.

I've been a XM subscriber since the mid-03s. I have had up to 8 subscriptions at once. 3 of my subscriptions are lifetime subscriptions. I won't listen to commercial broadcast stations. I currently have 5 subscriptions because I have downsized my fleet in the last year.

I'm no fan of the service, but even I'd be tempted to accept the $4/month offer. I wouldn't trust the promise of auto-cancellation, though, and would be proactive if I wanted to cut ties after 1 year.
Yeah I wouldn't take their word for it either. Everytime I've cancelled it took at least 20m on the phone.

if you tell them when you sign up that you do not want to auto re-new there is no need to call them...They lost a big lawsuit many years ago and they are very good about cancelling without even talking to them...when you sign up tell them you do not want an auto renewal. over the last 15 years or so it has taken me 0 seconds to cancel..been doing it the same way I renew and at that time tell them I do not want to auto renew and then when it expires a year later I wait a couple weeks and call them and start over...never once had an issue....now if you are talking Spectrum cable tv that is a whole nother matter :)

The best they were willing to offer me was $5 a month, plus all of the fees and taxes which ending up at $7.47 a month. Having it in 3 vehicles made it not worth it, I went with Spotify Premium instead, for $20 a month and we all use that. It has better sound quality as well.

Last time i called it was a AI voice asking me what I was calling about and I said i wanted to lower my monthly bill.
The AI asked if $7 dollars a month was a good offer and I said yes.
Never spoke to a real person and it was a one minute phone call.
No haggling and threating to cancel involved.
Serious? I need to try this! I'm paying $28/mo for two radios. I personally really like SiriusXM. Don't have to pair phone and decide on a playlist. I like listening to a dj even though they can be annoying.

The somewhat recent addition of DJs across many music channels has reduced the value of SiriusXM to me considerably. A lot of the blah-blah-blah content is either off-color or inane, IMHO. Seems like the addition of such “content” is perhaps meant to stop smaller restaurants from using a $4 SiriusXM subscription in lieu of a $400 ASCAP license. Indeed, I often wonder if there’s a hidden serial number sidebanded within the chatter (i.e., at an inaudible frequency) that could easily be scanned from the right app by a secret shopper. I doubt there’s anybody in a car who prefers generic national chatter in lieu of music.

So, yeah, I’m paying $4/mo for one of my two Jeeps. it’s just not worth more money anymore. At least not to me.

Also, the bitrate is poor. So I’ll go a year at a time without renewing. I legit cancel, not just sorta cancel.
If the DJ is live and not on a loop, I prefer a personable voice to announce what songs have been played or what's coming up.
I grew up listening and enjoying DJ's on the radio of my favorite FM radio stations.
The only one I recognize on XM is Meg Griffin from my old NYC FM rock stations.

Ok I tried the AI chatbot and 'it' gave me a deal of $7.99/mo but got an error when trying to apply it to my acct! Lol, of course it did! Then it transferred me to a live agent who gave me a better deal below! Saved me $22/mo, I'm good with this! I'm kinda olde skool and like how Sirius just feels like a bunch of radio stations, but without commercials!

Also, I’ve found that all the music stations are on a continuous loop. And on the music channels, the weekend yapping and crappy live concert segments are difficult to listen to.
I now just Bluetooth my mp3s to the Jeeps' Uconnect from my phone. Uninterrupted music, and by definition only what I want to listen to, across every genre that interests me.

That M.O. has positively ruined me for terrestrial radio, which is now almost pointless IMO, and even things like Sirius. It's not just about having to endure the occasional blather by the XM DJs, but also something I call the Cherry Pie Syndrome. Said differently, Sirius does recurringly play the same tired songs, across related channels, that I can hear for free on FM.

Nope. I'm not paying for that.

I miss the Real Don Steele and Robert W. Morgan shows on Boss 93 KHJ.

So you guys have convinced me, and I got a trial 3 month deal for $1, and then $29/month afterwards. When should I attempt to cancel to get this $5/month deal?
