Yes the trim can reach out and bite you!! Tonight I finished the speaker overhaul in the JL. I have to say it’s night and day from the stock 8.4” system. Tonight I replaced the front dash speakers which was super simple but made a nice improvement. First I did the surround speakers by putting 6x9’s in which also helped a ton. I will say however the cherry on top and biggest improvement by far has to be the hideaway 10”. It’s now a completely new system from when I started. Every JL should come from factory like it does now!!
Nice! You changed all the speakers? What speakers did you use?

@JasonInDLH i used kickers in the dash I got from Crutchfield cause I had gift cards. Then in surround I did the MB Quart kit with some new Boston acoustic 6x9 that I had in box last 8yr that I never used for another project I had but sold car. I also used decent amount of poly fill in all the speakers I replaced. I left the knee speakers alone because everyone says they huge PIA and not worth heartache to replace.

Was it difficult cutting for and mounting the 6x9’s? I’m assuming you installed these in the soundbar to replace the two smaller speakers there? Any pics to show us?

It wasn’t hard at all. The MB Quart is like a template to cut and there are a ton YouTube videos on it. I used a multi tool to cut out the plastic. It’s sad but the Jeep just comes with shit speakers.

Rando question . . . Did you find that this made a superior difference or just a slight noticable one?

From the stock it made a huge difference IMO. I think combined with other 2 mods the system was transformed though. The front dash upgrade is like 30min job and no brainer. The hideaway to me was needed though for that lower base kick and now it's more aftermarket upgrade than just an ok factory system.

Looks great!

I bet those Boston Acoustic’s are 3 way? How did you wire it to get the tweeters working? I’ve heard to connect to the smaller wire as opposed to the larger as the smaller wire is full range signal. Is that correct?

Right on! Thanks for sharing - hoping to install the hideaway tomorrow (Friday) - I'll try to take pics and provide process and outcome . . . Although, showers and snow predicted

I believe somewhere in another forum they said our unit does the crossover so they said let them dangle and the kit has you only plug into the one unit and put the other back up in. Def buy some poly fill cause there is a ton of empty space. Cruchfield seemed to be cheapest and gave me some for everything and bunch leftover just in. Case ever dumb and do knees.

2 questions…

1. Is it hard to take the soundbar down? Or did you cut in place?

2. How much Poly fill is needed to order for whole Jeep?

1. Is it hard to take the soundbar down? Or did you cut in place? I just cut in place. There are a ton of youtube videos you can watch to familiarize yourself with process before you start cutting but it's simple.

2. How much Poly fill is needed to order for whole Jeep? The one I bought at crutchfield was just a huge box of the stuff. I definitely didn't measure or anything just grabbed and shoved.

@Ghostwolf : Thought I’d share my amp fuse setup that I think works pretty good. I used JL Audio’s dual fuse holder (https://www.jlaudio.com/collections...cts/sba-j-jl-fhb-stealthbox-accessories-99838) that mounts the fuse up and out of the way of the fuse box.

You could probably also skip the JL Audio holder (it’s pretty expensive at $100) and mount the fuse where the bracket mounts, but I like to keep the fuse as close to the battery as possible. I believe it’s suggested to keep it within 18”.

Maybe someone else has a better idea, but it’s an idea for you.

Passenger side. I wouldn’t go any further towards the outside of the vehicle as there is a wall there. In fact, I would bring it closer towards the driver side. If you look at the top pic you can see the welded seam I’m butted up against and it was hard to get my grommet in.

The power cord fits nicely under the black thing in the second pic (I just have it out for reference as to where the power cord is).
