how warm do those “ solar” heated pressurized water tanks get? i am looking for a roof mounted heated shower tank i see the roam is 450 which seems high what others are available? what are you using?
and what about heating the water?

Kidding aside, I’m curious too. I’ve seen a few setups on Tacos where they used black PVC, put an hose on it, and pressurized it. I was going to try that setup on my 2010 taco but never got around to doing it.

seems like it’d be easy to build the question becomes how hot does the water get in one of those black tubes and is there a way to control the temperature at all?

Doesn't directly answer your question but might be an affordable option until you decide on a roof mounted system?
Fill it up and lay it in the sun for awhile to get hot, or if you want a cool shower just hang it right up.
I have a carabiner tied to some paracord that I clip to it and hang in a tree. It's gravity fed so not really much pressure, but good enough to get cleaned up. Handy for kayak camping and backpacking.

I have a waterport 2gal. From Amazon: https://a.co/d/0b7sw5LJ It works for a quick wash, but 2gal is not a lot. One time we set out 5gal water jugs in the sun too and refilled the waterport. Entire family showered off, but mostly use it for dishes on shorter trips. Water will get pretty warm. Usually we have a Basecamp so just set it out all day in the sun. Years (decades) ago I used a small solar shower so I could ride my bike to the office and then knock off some of the funk before walking around people.

I never got a 'hot shower,' but it was warm enough to be comfortable.

I suspect it may be location/season dependent though - South Texas in August will be different than North Wisconsin in January.

I've used solar water heaters in the past, and they're fine as long as the weather cooperates.

Recently I've been taking a portable propane water heater and a 5 gal collapsible bucket, which works exceptionally well for quick hot showers while out and about. And as a bonus, it works great for washing dishes too (I hate the greasy/grimy film on stuff from cold washing).

Before investing a crapload of money into it, think about how you actually go camping. We've wasted way too much on homemade attempts, things like Joolcas, etc. that all failed for us.

We eventually realized that we almost always camp for a couple days at a time. With that realization we sold the Joolca and the various other failed attempts and now just get an Airbnb or hotel every third night-ish. We carry "whore wipes" for those situations where a real shower just isn't available.
