At the end of this run I'm going to do a oil change, and then sometime before the end of October I'm going to be purchasing some Maxxis Bravo Series HT_770 32-in tires. So when I do end up doing my full-fledged MPG run in October/November, the numbers might be even more vastly improved by tires which are made to be driven on pavement.
No rock crawling? No fun??

Final numbers aren't as good as I was hoping for. Don't get me wrong, they're still good, they're just not great.

The first half the tank, I was doing really good. The second half the tank started going to shit pretty quick. Cooled off in Texas halfway through the week so my tire pressure dropped by like 5 psi. I was rolling around with 31 psi warm instead of my normal 35 once they're warmed up.

I left for work rather late a couple times and was pushing 70, instead of 65 because can't be to work too late. And then I had one point where I wasn't paying attention, as traffic was going 80, I was going 80 for 20 miles. And then Friday hits, I was really getting tired of driving around at 65 and not being able to drive the Jeep the way I like to, fast and furious. So I decided to cut the run short and fill up early when I still had little more than a quarter of a tank left.

Final tally: 27.47 MPG

Half the fun of the EcoDiesel, especially post tune, is smashing that skinny pedal and also going 105.

I might wait till next spring to do this full-fledged 55 mph run. On the flip side, I might do in November just to get over with.

I've got to do a 140 mi round trip tomorrow morning, so I might end up doing a short MPG run tomorrow morning just because I can.

Nothing so great for your MPG quite like a long tedious drive on a rural State highway. If so, I'll probably change my oil tonight, I was planning on doing it tomorrow after the drive, but I think before the drive would be good. We'll see, depends how much I want to get underneath the Jeep tonight.

Are you running a tuned economy stage? This bone stock 2022 Sahara after 6,116 miles has averaged 26.77 over 14 months time. Truly took it easy 99% of the time, just a bit above the declaration on the window sticker.

So if you're going off of what the dash is saying, your actual MPGs was probably closer to 24. The dash likes to lie a bit.

If you notice my dash says 29.8 MPG over 374.7 mi.

On Trip Timer B, I have over 5,000 mi and it's still saying 27.9 MPG.

And then on this page which presumably should be the lifetime average MPG, 27.6 is way too high, I promise you!

If you sit on this page, with the 27.6 average MPG, and you watch it over a couple of fuel tanks, you'll notice the number changes way too drastically to be a 29,156 mi. average.

None of these numbers are accurate! The only way to get an accurate depiction of your real life MPG's is to do the math at the pump. If you're not doing the math at the pump, you might as well be pulling the numbers out of your butt, cuz that's about how accurate they are. ;)

However when it comes to my tune, it's definitely not an economy tune. It's definitely a power tune. I got in extra 50 horsepower out of the tune, the pedal response is immediate. The only economy here is how I regulate the pedal with my foot.

If you look at the last time I did this run, 33.45 MPG with an untuned EcoDiesel. I won't really know whether this tune has in fact hurt my MPG, until I do what I am calling a "full-fledged MPG run". Until then, these numbers are just for fun really. More so it's just to see what you can get out of the EcoDiesel if you put your heart into it.

@CJ SCION is your Sahara a EcoDiesel?

You're one of those people! That's crazy!

I can barely do one of these MPG runs, and see through to the end before I'm already bored with it.

You got more drive than I do! ?

In a year and a half you've only put 6,000 mi on it, and filled up 21 times... :surprised:

I've only had my Willys Sport seven more months than you've had yours, and I'm almost at 30,000 mi. That's crazy!

I don't know, maybe the tune I got, because it really was for engine efficiency and power, maybe it's hurting my MPGs. However on the early portion of the MPG run I just did, I was probably averaging closer to 29 or 30 MPG. But then the latter half of it, like I said, I just stopped caring as much. Really, this run shouldn't have been posted because only half of the tank was following my rules.

I don't know, guess we'll see in the future when I do a proper full-fledged run. In general though, I have been seeing better MPGs when I'm not slamming on the skinny pedal, post tune. ?‍♂

I do plan on doing my drive tomorrow morning, maintaining the 55 mile per hour max that I'll be doing on my full-fledged run. We'll see what those numbers look like tomorrow afternoon!

You guys are way outta my league! I don't give two shitz about the miles per gallon! We only care about the Smiles per Mile...lol Love the looks on peoples faces when we take off from the light! Always a thumbs up from them at the next light

Funny as heck, but true. And this is true also, I ran through life at top speed until a few years after retirement. Only then did I back off and gain an appreciation for slow walking. It's all good.

You are doing good Greg. Puzzled me at first when reading your concern for mpg's. Reminds me of me when Harley came out with the twin cam fuel injected v-twin. I got one in the first year and it stunk for mpg's (36) compared to the old evolution which I was getting over (50) consistently with straight pipes and a tuned carb. Was good for 3 hours plus between refills.

Will be leaning more in this direction from here out but had to record what it could do as a stock model. I'm thinking that motor could do upper thirties and more power if it were de-cluttered of emissions. The bottom line, in my opinion, the ecodiesel Wrangler is some hot snot.

I'm not saying I know nothing about that, but I'll let you know it's true. Just the stage one will get you an extra three MPG on average daily driving. Can only imagine what a stage 2 tune will do for you. ;)

How is it getting better fuel mileage? It must be de-rating the engine? Lowering fuel pressure or something? The laws of something-or-other tells me you can't get better efficiency without losing power. Of course if that is what your goal is all good. Just curious.

I can't seem to get that type of mileage with the 4.88 gears, 40's and real heavy right foot on the skinny pedal..lol.. I will say this, with all steel bumpers, 40's on bead locks and all the supporting suspension, I am very happy with the power and 18mpg in the city doing jack rabbit starting

Think about it this way, take a fire pit, burn all of the logs in the fire pit, it burns great the first time, now take the ash from that first fire pit, and dump it on the second fire pit, now light the second fire pit, now take the ash from that second fire pit, dump it on the third fire pit... You see where I'm going here right?

The purpose of an EGR is to improve emissions by lowering engine efficiency. This is like diesel 101 right here. You can look it up anywhere. In fact let me find a video for you...

Here's a video:
