First analysis. Second oil change. 10,855 on the rig. 5,674 on the oil. Soot was 0.3%. Happy about the soot level, only trace of fuel, no antifreeze, no water.

Results from Amsoil's 5W-40 FS Euro. Roughly 21k on the Jeep and 4k on the oil change interval.

My Jeep has 113K miles as of this post, and I did "just" do an oil change but I haven't sent off the sample yet. This was from the oil change just past 100k miles. I've been doing these every oil change, just because my jeep has a "Lifetime Warranty" and I want to have some proof of doing the appropriate maintenance. (I used to work on Airplanes and the FAA is kind of strict). I do find it interesting to see the results... I would have never gone 10k miles between oil changes, but the Oil Life indicator appears to be a countdown from 10k miles.

I have the current sample at 113K and it HAS been changed, just haven't sent it in yet. There has been a discrepancy at the dealership, so I'm going to have to wait until that gets cleared up.

The service department isn't sure if the oil was changed of not...

Sorry, I was referring to the brand of oil, there is some major discrepancy in some of the additive number, moli for instance, between the 103k and 93k

Ok, sorry. I did top off the oil once before the 93k oil change. Since I go to the Dealership for the oil changes (due to the Lifetime Warranty) they use Mopar Part Number 68357422AA. They also don't always check the dipstick, so I ended up topping it off once. Also, I have to watch them take the sample... once when I wasn't watching they only collected a few drops of oil because they forgot about the sample. I'm not sure which sample that was... Last I checked, this is the Penzoil 5w-40 euro full synthetic. I think there are 3 part numbers, per quart, per 5 quart, and bulk all for the same oil. Its been a while since I looked all these up and I'd have to verify each number again since they change from time to time.

I'm mainly interested in the soot in the oil, and the metals found so I can understand the amount of wear on the engine. The and having proof for if the engine blows up!

Interesting to see the result are consistent even with the dealer oil. For sure to get real result when you switch oil you need to change the oil twice so you have flushed properly the old oil. But your motivation for UOA is more of a log book on engine wear than oil testing.

got this on Red Line oil @ ~40K miles.
Silicon was a little higher than what i'd like, but that's not surprising given the amount of time this thing has spent in the Dez; i see that as more of a reading on the Air Filtration than the oil.

used a good mix of PetroD with up to 20% BioD when i could get it, R80/B20, and straight-up #2 PetroD with the Mopar Diesel Fuel Additive when getting straight-up PetroD at those sketchy stations while out on the road.

I want to let everyone know that my EGR and emissions and all intact. I just have to replace the ā€œthrottle bodyā€, I think it’s call the ā€œEGR circulation valveā€ at the front of the intake. (It went bad and was throwing codes.) The intake is very dirty and caked up with soot! So all these oil samples have been taken with all the stock systems working and intact. This may be changing soon, and I will continue to take samples, including soot levels as well. This way I can see the change and share with all you.

Hey Bryan:

You may have discussed this previously but a couple questions:

How many miles on your 3.0?
Do you use any fuel treatment?
What oil have you been using?
What is your ratio of highway miles vs short trips?

Just interested in your usage based on the photos you posted…thx.

Currently at 114065 miles
80% highway / 20% city
I use the dealership oil, which is the penzoil euro 5w-40
No fuel treatment at all, and I run it till below the E! šŸ˜‚
40 inch tires / 4 inch lift with the stock 3.73 gears.

I recently was running very short on time had to get home without stopping to refuel. My yellow Dash Warning Light of low fuel went from 31 to 11 Miles left then shortly after that said "low fuel" with no indication of miles left. At this point it was on E and it was at the lowest I had ever dared to go. Being only five and a half miles from home I continued and made it home without incident.
Question approximately how many gallons are left if any when you get to this point? If you have experience in this please share. Reason is my nearest fuel station is another 4 miles away. P.S. on 38's with stock gears 3:73s 3.5" lift. Runs great.

I think you have 1 extra gallon, and in the stock configuration you should get like 25 miles. I’ve gone 35 miles after seeing dashes. I’m sure this is a YMWY šŸ˜‚ situation. Once it goes dashes I’m usually going to stop no matter how much the fuel costs if I’m in a trip. If I’m in my home town, I’ll stretch it out to 20ish miles if I’m in a hurry.

Made it to my local fuel station yesterday to fill up. I estimated I drove approximately 15 miles after the low fuel warning displaying 11 miles left to empty and changed to only "low fuel" indicator. Never saw "dashes". (That may be the next step to very very low fuel.) From that point I estimated driving 15 extra miles before I filled back up. The pump indicated I had pumped 17 gallons. Our ecodiesels having 18.3 gallon capacity which leaves me to believe you have approximately 2 gallons left in reserve when the numerals of miles left to empty disappear and go to "low fuel" warning. Hope this information serves others who are in a dire strait for a fuel station and running very close to empty.
