I mean...once they get them open, you could be looking at a shock that needs a part that Fox won't give you. You'll drop off 4 shocks and 2 of them could be rebuilt and the other two will need something. It's a downward spiral after that. It's either buy new and replace them or go into the rebuild process with your fingers crossed that the shop can even get them apart with damaging them. After they try and fail, then you're stuck buying new ones anyway on top of the bill they'll give you for trying.

It's not a drop off and pick up a week later process some times. I'm just more or less giving the warning that this could happen because I've seen it happen. The latest horror story was with a set of Fox 2.0 Res that @conFUcius had on his rig. Super nice shocks that ended with him buying a new set after dropping his off for a rebuild.
I emailed Fox to ask about a re-build as I was just curious about the timeline and got this back. So price must have increased and they haven't updated the site yet. Price on the site is $90/shock for the 2.0 IFP. Also seems like if something else is wrong they will just charge you for it if it's under $100. I feel like they should contact you for approval even if it's going to cost you any extra amount at all. Either way good info to have in case I decided to send my old ones in to re-build as a spare set.

"For a 2.0 shock, our standard estimate for rebuilding is as follows:

Non-reservoir shock: $105.00 per shock
Reservoir shock: $126.00 per shock
This estimate covers a comprehensive inspection of all parts, a complete teardown and cleaning, as well as the installation of new seals, oil, and nitrogen. If, during the rebuilding process, we discover any additional parts that require replacement, we will promptly contact you for approval before proceeding with any work that exceeds $100.00.

Current turnaround time is around 10-14 business days from when we receive the shocks."

@confucious

Didn't you try this?

I'm 99% certain the people servicing your shocks were jerking you around.

So, I didn’t email Fox to rebuild the shock. Outlaw Offroad in Greensboro said they could rebuild the shock. When they took apart the shock, there was an internal shaft that was cracked that needed replacement. Fox refuses to sell the part to Outlaw Offroad or myself because the former is not an authorized dealer on their dealer network (despite Outlaw selling Fox products). As a result, I have a front shock that is not repairable unless Outlaw or myself can source the replacement part from Fox. Furthermore, the set screws on the rear shocks cannot be opened (they spin) and thus cannot be rebuilt (at least by the local shop). Perhaps Fox could rebuild the rears if I sent them to Fox?

@SadRobot - As @chevymitchell stated, I would purchase a cheaper set of shocks to put on your rig while Fox is rebuilding yours. If I had to do it all over again, that is what I would do. I’m not mad at Outlaw as they did give me a pair of RK shocks to use in the meantime… but I’m still rocking these and it’s almost been a year later with minimal update (to be fair, I’m also not chasing them down either…). That being said, I would not purchase Fox again given all the issues… Bilstein B8 (?) might be my next route or just stick with the RK ones I already have… and just keep a spare set around for when the others need rebuilding/recharging.

Thanks for this info. 👍

@SadRobot I was under the impression that 2.0IFP's were more or less disposable at their end of life. I know some shops will not touch them. But I have never ran them personally so I wouldn't know for sure. Maybe reach out to Onyx Shock Service in Laguna Hills. He took care of me in a pinch. I reached out to him on the gram, and we set up an appointment slot for same day service. Since he knew I was coming from 3-4hrs away, I got there when he opened and he did rebuilds on (4) 2.5 King bypasses in a matter of a few hours. I was on my way home from LA by 1030/11am.

Anyone know of a place in the LA area that will rebuild your shocks while you wait? I can't remove my shocks to take them somewhere because I only have the Jeep.

Just curious if I can drive to a shop, they would remove the shocks, re-build and then re-install.
SadRobot your best bet would be rent a car (or what ever you would like to try) and then let the mechanic do the job right?

I too am of the understanding that the 2.0s were disposable at end of life. That’s why I went with the DSC 2.5s.

Have you or Outlaw Offroad tried reaching out to Accutune Offroad in SoCal? They are primarily a shock tuning company and sell Fox and King exclusively. Maybe they can help get the part you need to get your 2.5's back on the Jeep?

They are re-buildable according to Fox. $105/shock if you mail them to them.

I decided to get new shocks that I'll install next week.

Of course they do 🤦‍♂️
Guess I’ll be riding on Bilstein shocks from now on.
Cant stand Bilstein. things only last a few k miles then they leak. both sets ive owned and two sets on my buddies runner. never again. Ill keep my falcon all day. I will order extensions brackets and find a part of rubi shocks to put from the forums for free to use while i wait for a good rebuild to be done

I spoke with King about rebuilding my truck shocks. They are local and will turn them in a day or less per the guy that answered the phone, if I tell them it's a DD.

That's a good deal.

For now I'm going to hold onto my old shocks. 1 front and 1 rear were leaking so the other 2 technically are fine. Maybe one day I will send them for a re-build but I feel like eventually I'll end up getting something nicer than the Fox 2.0s anyway.

I’m still stuck on what to do. When I drive straight over bumps there’s no issues. When I drive down a road it just feels like I’ve got no control over body roll. Makes me wonder if my 6 month old metalcloak end links are already trashed. It literally feels like I’m driving with no sway bars.

That’s the way to go. Based off of my experience, I’ll keep these cheap RK shocks as spares and eventually upgrade to Bilstein B8s or Kings.
