With the ESS warning, could it possibly be battery/electrical gremlins, especially since it cleared after restart. I'd think if it was vacuum, it would return asap. No, I seem to never have time to touch my JL. However it's funny you bring it up because it did it to my wife at our "home elevation" of 6500' just the other day!
Previously it would only do it after prolonged climbs in low range and typically 10k+ altitude.
I told the wife ignore it, and the problem cleared.
That said, my plan is to first replace the hose off the vacuum pump. Somewhere here on the board the part # has been posted. I even saved it somewhere I could find it -- which is precisely why I now canNOT find it! Duh!
Also, my symptoms of high altitude kinda jibe with a vacuum problem because as altitude increases max attainable vacuum decreases (as in pulling down an a/c system)
Sorry not more help and please post your attempts and successes (and failures)
Does putting the vehicle in a state where ESS is continuously not ready cause that battery to not be charged? Like when in 4WL. Just like if you pressed the ESS off button? Maybe that battery drained enough while on the trails by running accessories etc and was not being charged.
Damned computers we're driving these days.
