Hey gang. A few weeks ago, my '20 JLU Rubicon came up w a TPMS error. "Service TPMS". It has 47K Miles w a build date of March '20 with original TPMS sensors.
Both batteries were replaced early March. These are aftermarket replacements for the shitty Mopar batteries which were previously replaced under warranty.
I don't think the TPMS issue is related as this error came up weeks after the batteries were replaced.
Tires were done at Costco last Oct and they re-used the original TPMS sensors.
Brought it to Costco for sensors testing. Every single sensor came up OK for battery state including the spare and all 5 sensors immediately registered with their test tool.
So according to Costco tech who also reset all sensors, it appeared to her that they were fine even though they are close to the rated 6-7 year life for the internal battery.
Since all 4 sensors are not providing a reading, I assumed it was the TPMS module that sets atop the rear cross member.
Ordered a new genuine Mopar module from a reputable ebay vendor.
Genuine Mopar 2018-2021 Jeep Wrangler Tire Pressure Monitoring Module 68410628AE
It came sealed with every single number on the module matching mine except for manufacturing date code was 2 years newer. Swapped it out.. easy process.
No change.... and I have driven over 100 miles at highway speeds over the past 2 days assuming it would reset but no luck..
OBD code scan shows a few errors. One is specific to TPMS though it falls under BCM which apparently controls this module.
So... while unlikely, am I in the small % of people who may have received a new but DOA module? It's possible but not likely..
I visual inspection of the plug and wiring going into the module looks fine.
Where does that wiring harness terminate? I would like to inspect the other end of the wires.
My jeep has never been off road and spent the first 3 years in a garage when not out. I live in MI so we get snow and salt in winter but overall, the underbody is pretty clean and the original module looks intact w clean contacts in the plug and no signs of water damage to the body seal.
Before changing the module I pulled the negative terminal on both batteries and let it sit for 45 min to force a full ECU reset. No change..
Should I pull the fuse for the BCM? According to what I found, there is no separate fuse for the TPMS module.
Here are the OBD error codes:
BCM: B16D715 Critical Level 2
IPC: U012700 Critical Level 2
AMP: B221F00 Critical Level 2
RADIO: B156113 Critical Level 2
I am stumped.. would have bet the module went bad and apparently my model year has no manual TPMS master reset. It sb automatic...
