Guys, what’s the best way to sell my 2018 JLU? It has steel bumpers, spare tire carrier, Warn winch, 2 1/2 inch lift by Metalcloak, skid plates by Metalcloak, etc.

I'm not seeing modified Jeeps on Autotrader so I’m thinking that’s not the best way to go. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Depends if you are doing private sale or trade in. With a trade in you won't get any extra $$ due to mods., With a private sale you may get a little more if you find the right buyer. Selling with mods is tricky, need to find the perfect buyer that likes what you have done to the rig

When I got rid of my JKU I returned it to stock as much as I could

Assuming you are doing to this to buy a new Jeep, I would take as many mods as possible off the Jeep then trade it in. If the mods won't work on the new Jeep sell them off individually and make a little extra money.

If you're just wanting to sell and not buy something new, then I'd leave the mods on and look for that right buyer.

Just remember that, in most states, you don’t pay sales tax on the trade difference. So if you get $30,000 on trade and $33,000 on a private sale — and your sales tax is 10% — that’s a wash. In that circumstance, I’d trade To avoid the hassles of private sale. Dealers will sometimes give good trade value for flashy Jeeps. They sit out in front and draw people to the lot, and usually sell for solid prices.

Yup, mods narrow down your target audience fast.

It isn’t that people don’t want mods; it’s more that not everyone wants your mods.

Not that there’s anything wrong with your mods per se, either, it’s just that most people want to do their own. And there’s always the uncertainty that the mods were done correctly, etc.

As already mentioned: bring your Jeep back to factory spec as much as you can, and sell the rest separately.

Good luck.

Just starting this process myself and think the general advice here is spot on. There's a few things I'm leaving but anything I can yank I'm planning to. Good luck!

Update. I asked a local Jeep suspension shop how to best sell the Jeep and the owner bought it. Talk about luck!

PS. As many of you know the JL has wiring issues where the dash will light up like a Christmas tree and you loose 4WD. I carry a scanner with me and rest the codes whenever the problem arises. Seems to be the best solution given that the dealers can’t fix it (yes, the new owner is aware of the issue). The dealer did replace the chassis wiring harness though.

i often see modded wranglers for sale online. craigslist and offer up for sure. a lot of people who dont know anything about jeeps but want the look would love to jump into a modded jeep. that's why there always modded wranglers out front on used car lots. just waiting for the fish to swim bye and bite. now expensive, top shelf mods, that's a different story, because noobs dont know the difference. put a wrangler on skyjacker lift parked next to one on metal cloak, for the same price, and the noob buyer will buy whichever one looks nicer in their eyes.

my buddys girlfriend was looking to get one. neither of them know anything about jeeps. they just looked at at all the modded jeeps on Blackstar's website and found ones they thought looked good based on the lift and wheels/color etc... i said we could build it for less but he said they'd rather just have it done already and in the financing. there's LOTS of people like that out there lol

Craiglist. Take good pictures (no photographer's shadow). Most importantly, a full acurate description. I always discuss every imperfection in my ad. It creates credibility. I also determine a no-haggle price and forewarn the potential buyers of it upfront. Ironically, a fair, well-researched price lessens stress all around.

As many of you know the JL has wiring issues where the dash will light up like a Christmas tree and you loose 4WD.
When that subject recurringly makes the rounds on the forum, the general consensus is that it's indicative of a failing battery. This isn't always the case, but erratic dash lighting and attendant malfunctions are often the first sign of a battery reaching the end of its service life. Replacing it is the recommended first course of action, and the simplest (and also possibly the cheapest.)

Yes, it's possible that real issues with the wiring harness, etc. are present, but we like to investigate these things in order, starting with the simple stuff.

Thank you for the tip but unfortunately both batteries are new.
