I've seen quite a few soft tops for sale heading into the winter. But is there a flip side in the spring, folks selling their hardtops? Not looking yet, but maybe next season.

I know on the JK, if you ordered one without hardtop they didn't come pre-wired for it. So, if you wanted to add one later you won't have the rear wiper functionality. I wonder if the JL is the same or they all come pre-wired for hardtop...as they should.

@Carbonalpine; I purchased a hardtop so I can’t say for sure, but from what I’ve read on the forum here, they do not come pre-wired if you get soft top only. Again...from what I’ve read, you have to buy the wiring harness and a new wiper switch for the steering column if you want full functionality.

Yea, at least there's a work around. But at the end it will cost someone more than the option was to begin with. It's silly for FCA to change the process and restrict the built in harness in every soft-top ordered unit. It costs them pennies to do. Given the fact that Wrangler owners change parts very often, it would've been thoughtful.

I also ordered the hardtop package for this reason, but I like the soft top's ease of lowering.

I'm kind of planning on eventually selling my hardtop, once a good fastback hardtop becomes available on the market.

When prices fall I'd like to buy a 2nd, 4 door hardtop and try this project of breaking it into 4 connectable pieces.

;)Clearly because I have both lots a spare time and cash.... (not)
Wow, this is really awesome, maybe something I'd consider doing later. Doesn't seem too hard either, but you do need time and money, neither of which I've been known to have much of!
