It absolutely did! I was thoroughly enjoying myself. 3rd time out there and was much more confident going through some trails. We were on our way to the rock garden to get a group jeep photo before we ended the day only to swap the wheel with the spare and had to very slowly go back the way we came cuz my bump stops were severely rubbing on the springs. Lessons learned and left a little PTSD lol but I want to get back out there. Need some skids though! Thankfully, the parts I replaced were given to me for free from a friend and all work done by myself and friends.

I was recently lamenting my first repair on my 2022 JLU Sahara (new driver in household, new right fender), and I started thinking about the Jeep owners who actually take their Jeeps off road (there have to be some who still do this, right?). I have to assume that this results in some self-inflicted damage, but is that correct? How often do the off-road crowd damage their own rides just having fun?

I have Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Jersey and Pennsylvania Pin stripes all down the sides of my JL Rubicon and it's less than a year old ? 18 Jeep Badge of Honor badges and a ton of great memories and new friends

I was recently lamenting my first repair on my 2022 JLU Sahara (new driver in household, new right fender), and I started thinking about the Jeep owners who actually take their Jeeps off road (there have to be some who still do this, right?). I have to assume that this results in some self-inflicted damage, but is that correct? How often do the off-road crowd damage their own rides just having fun?

Believe it or not, there are many Jeepers out there that INTENTIONALLY do damage and are proud of posting the many pics on the forums.

I spent 10 years HARD CORE wheeling, its all I did, I retired and hits the rocks for the next 10 years.

After almost 100k mi from Cali to Texas Utah to Mexico, and chasing the 7++ trails the pic below show were I got to much lean going thru a keyhole rocks. I was the test mule on that run as I thought I could get thru it but I did and bent the hood and gouged the door, all the damage I ever had..

I can't be the only one who's whacked the driveline and had to replace it.

For me…just the rear drive shaft after I winched myself over the front of a rock ledge; lesson learned!

I have to say its way more fun with three pedals. the faces you get to make and the noise the passengers make when you rub rock or come down hard is worth a good laugh.

I try to keep myself in the mind set that body damage can and will happen at some point. but as long as its on the trail and not at the mall. its all worth it

That’s a good mindset to have for sure! I know I’ll be looking to avoid body damage for a bit after all the $$ spent recently for a new engine and a few other things I had done. Lol. But it’s much better to get damage on trails!

2.5 years , 34000 miles. Only two main jeep jamborees, couple of other trails, definitely some pin striping on the paint sides, a few branches over the top. Put all the skid plates through hell, tore my rig HR front fender off on a tree after I came down off a rock ledge to fast, scraped the replacement one in the same spot a full year later (that fender hates me). I used to be a best freak and want a slick shiny vehicle, and I still do wash and clean her up after a trail ride, but the damage stays as evidence it’s a jeep used as a jeep like many have said already. It’s like Mater said, “I came by each one of those dents scratches and dings, they made the memories, I don’t want to lose them”

Well…was great for 6 weeks. Now the famous gremlin that these engines are apparently known for has struck. Have a check engine light on related to the cam - slow response. They’ve done everything they can think of to correct. Now having to reach out to Chrysler to see what to do to fix. Occasionally, while driving at highway speed, something is triggering it to kick into limp mode when I’m in 4th gear. So now I’m waiting to hear the next step.

LOL Perfect, FAR FAR FROM IT.

There is a reason why ole Gran Pa here was only damaged once in those ten years...BY the time I retired to fulfill, my passion I had nearly 40 years of Jeeping around the world. That and by then I knew how to build a Jeep.

Since we did not have iPhones back in those times I have no pics:

The time I drove into a river and to find out it was about 10 ft deep. Hod to be pull out by a big truck and a big chain as I was almost half way across.

Did you miss my story about flipping my jeep off the side of a mountain and it landing on top of me and they had to angel flight me to a hospital where I was there for a week and then home for 2 weeks to recover???

Time I drove thru a mud puddle and got so stuck I had to be pulled out and I was wheeling by myself and did not get help till for almost 8 hrs.

Which state causes the most damage? In my experience when in Utah you can see the obstacles coming and it's grippier. That helped me to avoid unintentional outcomes. I've had more damage back East.

OH no that sucks! I have been debating putting the 5.7L hemi into my jeep when the 3.6 fails if it fails... fingers crossed it doesnt though. I hope you get everything sorted out soon. wheeling season is here. :D
