Hi everyone,
Maybe I'm being paranoid, but has anyone else been hesitant to get the JL based on the issues we've been reading about?
My friends have told me i am crazy to even consider buying a jeep.
I figure the majority aren't having issues, and they've sold a lot of wranglers.

There are no more issues than with any other new car that I have bought and that is about 20 new cars. The people that are not buying these because of what they read should probably just go buy a bus pass. There is no perfect vehicle. You buy old, there could be issues. You buy new, there could be issues. The difference is when you buy new you get to go drop it off at the dealer and let them fix it while you drive a loaner.

Do what you wish but I am so glad I didn’t wait. Enjoying every minute of ownership, especially yesterday out wheeling in the back country with 9 others.

It's normal to worry about such things, but in my opinion it's not worth it. The way I looked at it is this: I have always loved my Jeeps and while I was waiting for it to be built I spent a LOT of time on this forum reading about everything. Issues, mod ideas, etc. Yes, there have been some people with horrible issues. Fires, sheared trackbar mounts, shitty welds, etc. But these are the minority. I did have a minor issue upon delivery of mine (headlight halo not coming on), but I LOVE it, they fixed it, and I feel that if I ever have a major issue it will get fixed.

If you really want a Jeep, just do it. They are awesome :jk::like:

I would wait until FCA solves the loose/wandering steering issue. I love everything else about mine but that issue is a deal breaker.

Should be able to take it for a real test drive before purchase. Bonus if you have a friend with a Jeep to go with you.

As far as worrying about the reports of issues, be smart and all about it but realize it is not just Jeep that has troubles. New Miata has a 300 plus page thread on blown transmissions, first year for the new Corvette showed multiple reports of the engine grenading.

Do you have a JL? If you do then take it to the dealer. Have jeep cares get involved. People continue to complain about the steering. I took mine in they completed the TSB and my rig is perfect. Many of the people complaining either haven't taken it to the dealer or the dealer doesn't know what to do. Jeepcares saw my post, send me a PM, contacted the dealer before my appointment and told them what to do. A few hours later I was all fixed. There is no steering issue as far as I am concerned.

I don't have this. Mine steers with 1 finger and does not wonder left or right.

I have test driven 4 Wranglers. 2 Rubicons and 2 Sports, all unlimited. The Rubicons drove straight with no steering issues and the Sports did not. I would not hesitate to buy either Rubicon that I tested.

I took my hands off the wheel driving 75 in mine. It didn't wander anywhere. Test drive it on the highway before you buy it. This is a problem, but not with every vehicle, not by a long shot. I've driven 3 (including mine) and none had the wandering issue.

Yes I intend to take it on the highway. The dealer said they will call me when it comes in and i can inspect and drive before they prep it for me to take.

I would make sure they set tire PSI to 37 before the drive.

People tend to be more vocal when there's something that's unsatisfactory, as opposed to when things are just fine. Just look at Yelp reviews.

I haven't experienced any problems yet, but i do read all the postings regarding the issues that others are experiencing just to keep on top of things, especially for TSBs and such. No vehicle is perfect, and that's been true for every vehicle I have ever owned.

If you page through the remainder of the postings here, it owners asking and giving advice on pretty much every subject, or proudly posting pictures of their rigs - just take a look at the garage! These posts dominate the majority of the content which is a pretty good indicator of how things are going in overall.

Test drive the vehicle you want to buy, and ask your dealer about the issues that have been listed here and gauge their response. I prefer to have a dealer that I'm comfortable working with for regular maintenance and addressing potential issues.

That said, I went from a tuned rally car to my first Jeep, and it's been one hell of an adventure. This community is nothing short of amazing, and I have few regrets making the jump to a JL*.

* The money i'm spending on getting stuff for the rig is starting to get out of control.
