If the display is turned off, can you still have info displayed like a clock? My screen has no display when turned off. My JK had the clock in the center of the screen when display was off.
With the JK you have to go to settings and enable the clock displaying like you had it or select no clock to be displayed. I assume you need to do the same thing with the JL.

Thank you for writing. I tried this on the JLand it does not appear to be the same.

Must’ve had better than avg then on my JK and the wife’s van. Usually only lose reception going thru the Eisenhower and on 470 bear Wadsworth.
A great place is the drive west on 36 to Boulder from Denver. Both my vehicles lose XM at least three or four times between Pecos and Wadsworth, and not always due to bridges.

Lost it pretty much under every bridge going to Keystone last week. Better coming back home. Wondering if my ski rack is interfering with the reception. I’ll know in a month when I put the soft top on after ski season is done.

All these posts about your iffy satellite radio reception and you just get around to mention the ski rack you have installed right over top of the satellite receiver. For chits and giggles you might want to remove the ski rack and see if this impacts... for the better, your satellite radio reception.

It’s not directly over the sound bar where the antenna is. And I’m getting signal loss with or without the snowboard installed. I’ve moved the rack around to different spots and same results. The first week the rack was on I never had a problem...drove through the Eisenhower tunnel and didn’t lose signal at all...which was amazing.

You have to remember there are two different signals at work here.

Normally you pick up signals via satellite, of course, but XM also has some terrestrial FM repeaters that are used in urban areas and others where satellite reception can be difficult. I recall the Hanging Lake Tunnel had broadcast FM repeaters in it but I"m unaware whether the Eisenhower does.

Just drove a new 2018 JKU as a loaner the other day. Live in SoCal and for the most part...unless you are parked under ground, the signals out here are strong enough we should not have loss of signal. However, in this loaner 2018 JKU it would loose signal with no obstruction every few seconds making it not possible to use. After getting my new JLU....I was concerned that we would have the same issue. Its not as bad but does cut out more than it should (note: no roof rack or anything obstructing the receiver on the speaker bar - other than the hard top itself). The drops are momentary and can occur when under completely open and clear sky. Like all signals, the satellite can be blocked or interfered with which is why the radios have a buffer and basically download the stream way ahead of what you are hearing so that in the event you do get to a spot where you loose reception...the buffer has the data and thus you as a user do not experience a loss of signal. My question to the group is: Is there a known way to increase the buffer size? Something that we can modify in a setup screen somewhere?

Anyone else notice the reception drop out quite a bit? Driving around town I'm losing reception a few times a song multiple times each drive. Nowhere near the reception quality of my JK or the wife's van.
I recently ungraded a 2013 JK to a 2018 JL. I noticed a high number of short duration drop outs on my way home from the dealer on the same road I had driven hundreds of times with my JK with no issues. Two weeks later, I had the opportunity to use a 2019 Cherokee with the same radio. It had exactly the same issue! I currently have the dealer trying to get the trailer brakes working, now escalated within Jeep, so I am still sitting on this issue. In another post, someone suggested a problem with the size of the buffer. I suspect the same. Has anyone found a way to adjust the buffer?

Dealer told me Sprint is who they’re using for SAT reception. I told them no wonder the receptions blows because Sprint sucks ass. Maybe if they merge with T-Mobile it won’t drop out every bridge I drive under.

@Flyguy81

Do you really think Sirius/Xm satellite radio is coming from cell phone towers? Sure hope you are just kidding.

It's terrible with my JLU, it constantly drops the signal, as someone said at least 2 or 3 times during a song. TOO BAD, I LIKED MY JL FOR A SHORT TIME!

Same with my 2 dr. JL. Never had such Sirrium/Xm issues (constant signal dropping) with any vehicle (many) that I have owned.

I hate to hear that reception is worse than JK. I hit this issue when I sold my Ford (Sirius) and got a GM (XM). Theory is that XM satellites are better in southern states than northern and vice versa, but I think it’s something else. Do these new receivers do less buffering, or are they less powerful?

I now listen almost solely to Spotify, iTunes, and podcasts because the constant signal drop is unbearable. If there’s something on Sirius that I really want to hear I resort to the Sirius CarPlay app.

Anyway, here’s my old GM thread which concluded Nothing more than, “satellite blows”: http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/siriusxm-reception-and-traffic-anyone-in-ct.82720/

And another: https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/194549-siriusxm-issues/

The service dept created a Star case when I took the Jeep in for the crappy reception. Said they talked to FCA and was told that the SXM signal is shared with Sprint’s satellite. Makes no sense to me. They showed me a SAT coverage map with dead spots and it matched Sprint’s coverage map so beats me. Take it in, make a Star case and maybe if a bunch of people do it they’ll come out with a fix.
