Sat Radio reception

Mine is cutting out so much that I switch to FM. I have three other cars with Sirius and no issues. Today was clear blue sky with the Freedom panels off and still cutting out. I am going to take it to the dealer this week.

That’s what mine is doing. Got an appt on Tues.

Techs can’t find anything wrong. Won’t warranty any parts unless there’s a failure somewhere. Said “there’s just lots of dead spots in CO and it’s a different system than the JK”

After some bitching they’re creating a Star case and gonna do some more investigating so we’ll see.

Can you reproduce it near the dealership? If so, maybe you can get them to drive you to a dead spot in a vehicle from their lot. If it only happens in *your* truck you have a better case.

I’ve had satellite in various cars since it came out. Sirius reception has always been better than XM in my neck of the woods (Different satellites, even though the companies merged. I read that new satellites will go up in 2020.) Anyway, more than once I’ve had reception issues fixed by a new antenna (they don’t call it an antenna - receiver or some such?) If you push, maybe they’ll replace yours to get you out of their hair.

Anyway, keep us updated with your case. Very frustrating!

I hate the way car manufacturers run away from Sirius/XM issues. I fought with GM over a similar issue. All they wanted to do was refer me to Sirius’ 800 number. Eff that. I don’t care how well they think these units can self diagnose hardware problems. Fix it!

I hope you get some resolution on this.

Me too. Sirius was worthless.

There are several hidden menu's you can look at. I found a display that was in the engineering mode that shows how much signal I was getting
from each xm station. Most are viewed by pressing and holding the driver side hot and cold button and the front defrost button.
You don't want to made any setting changes, its very complex!

But an example I had -75DBM sitting still in a parking lot, on an xm station ,very overcast and rain at about 900 feet above sea level. You can compare your settings to another JL same as yours.

There is a factory reset that can be done also.

Ask the dealer about exploring some of these options, I have even seen a radio diagnostic screen on one of these deep sub menu's Under Signal strength says -75dbm

There are many screens I was able to get into for radio parameters, but it had alot of information that
in the wrong hands could mess with my radio. lol

Also found some good screens for the radio brightness with headlights on or off. Mine seem rather dim.
Will play with those setting!

tried the defrost trick and only had dealer menu. No supplier mode.

That worked. Getting -75 dBm in the garage with the door closed. Will have to check it out on a drive and see what it is.

There was alot of stuff to look at like type of antenna detected. Muting levels.

If the display is turned off, can you still have info displayed like a clock? My screen has no display when turned off. My JK had the clock in the center of the screen when display was off.

I have SXM on two vehicles and they both cut out all over the Denver metro area; they're not entirely wrong.

Must’ve had better than avg then on my JK and the wife’s van. Usually only lose reception going thru the Eisenhower and on 470 bear Wadsworth.
