Rubicon vs Moab

To be fair to the OP, I will also give a serious reply.

The Moab is not based on the Rubicon. It is based on the Sahara.

So if you want a Sahara with some of the more aggressive styling of the Rubicon, the Moab is a good choice. It is a great-looking edition. And it is not going to be offered in 2020 so you will have to find one on the lot.

It is no way better than a Rubicon, except in the ways a Sahara is preferable to the Rubicon - More sophisticated interior and the Auto-4WD option. This is particularly helpful in mixed winter driving conditions like you might find in the Northeast or Midwest.

Curiously it is paired with aggressive Mud Terrain tires that look great but kind of work against the on-road manners of the Sahara.

What you don't get are the of-road benefits of the Rubicon which include 4:1 transfer case, 4:10 gearing, beefier axles, auto sway bar disconnect, and front and rear lockers.

The Moab is Sahara. It even lists it on the sticker with the Moab a package. This isn't a surprise to anyone, right?

I know what my Moab is. Actually, 9 out of 10 Sahara owners understand and use their Sahara as it was designed. On the flip side, 1 out of 10 Rubicon owners use it as it was designed yet 9 out of 10 are overly protective of it and get all bent out of shape when these questions come up.

If I am contributing to the thread (more than my joke), I decided I would used the full time 4wd more than all the Rubicon stuff listed above and the rear D44/LSD would take me anywhere I needed to go. I don’t care which Jeep you have, I think it’s cool and I will wave.

Ugh... OP asked what is the difference between a Moab and Rubi. I am assuming so they could make a somewhat informed purchase.
Results?! 3+ pages of rubi vs. sport vs. half track vs. Abrams vs. hovercraft vs. your wheeling abilities vs. spaceship vs. dirt bike vs. wtfu#ck ever.

Short answer OP, get the one you like better. If you keep asking for opinions you will find more than will help you decide.

Personally, I went with the Rubicon for capability & resale....Do I use it for what it’s meant for? Well, I hopped a curb earlier today with ease sooo...

I also got a fully loaded ‘19 Rubicon (minus steel bumpers) in the color I wanted for about $3k more than the ‘18 MOAB that wasn’t the color I wanted (that another dealership was trying to push on me). I think most people would take that deal 9 times out of 10.

Keep in mind that the MOAB edition is now discontinued. If you can fine one in stock on dealer lot, I would grab it. These will be collectors items one day given the limited production in late 2018 and 2019.

Yeah, I came for the jokes! Instead, I think I walked into the first day of an AA meeting when everyone is in denial. Do Rubicons come with panties that are already wadded up or do they get wadded up if they don’t get washed enough?

The buggy tangent is still tbd, but Rubicons could use some mud flaps like that with their tiny little rocker. No my Moab rockers are not for sale.
