Never heard of these before. Saw a flatbed full of them going down the interstate the other day, thought they were some old resto-mod Willys or something. They look pretty cool, appear to be fairly capable and look fun to bomb around in. I am guessing there are some people here that have driven one, are they as neat as they look?

The first gen Roxor was basically an Old Jeep CJ with a diesel. Pretty darn slick. Make it factory street legal, turn up the injection pump for a few more ponies so it’d cruise at 65 and I’d own one. Fun little rig off road-don’t want to have to trailer to get there-hence I drive a Jeep.

Retro-looking and performing side by side. Not street legal. Nowhere near can-am or razr performance with a similar price tag and all the drawbacks. Pass.

Except that it has real solid axles, a real 2 spd transfer case, (based on older Jeep designs) a 5-speed manual, and a 2.5L turbo diesel, that with a modified ECU will do 65...
And in my free state I can certainly drive it on the road.
It's not competing against plastic Can-Ams, and Polaris's. Apples & Oranges

Seen some on ranches here in TX. People seem to use it for stuff that they don't want to do with their pickup. Seen water tanks, feed, small square bales in the back. It's not legal, but I know some of the guys are using them on small roads too. Less likely to get pulled over than the plastic fantastic crew.

As an off road only toy in most states, it is competing against can-ams and Polaris's, and losing miserably. For the price I'll take a YJ or CJ any day, and be able to road trip anywhere in the US. If I'm buying a trailer queen, I'll take something that can handle real speed off road. To each his own I guess.

I'm really not sure it is competing against those other machines. I see it as for a completely different audience, like the rancher, or a guy that wants an old school trail machine (who's not into speed, and blasting through mud etc.)
To me, there's something cool about being able to buy a "brand new" 1955 CJ (essentially) but with a 5-speed and a turbo diesel, but yes albeit mostly non street legal.
The pic that the OP posted was actually an older one like '18, or '19 before FCA sued Mahindra over the grille design. A design by the way Jeep had licensed to Mahindra back in the '50's I believe. And in '18, you could have bought that Roxor for about 18K.
It took some time for Mahindra to come up with a front end design (kinda weird looking) to satisfy Prima Dona FCA, but I'm glad they did.
It's a cool alternative to a traditional side by side. With all the possibilities of mods that an old CJ-5 has.
But like you said, "To each, his own" ?

I agree with you that they’re cool. They’re also street legal where I live on any road with a speed limit of 45 or lower.

The problem is that you can’t take them on many trails on public lands because they’re not street legal. That limits their appeal for me.

Cool little thing, but too expensive, and underpowered. Plus, it isn't street legal. Buy an older TJ, drop in a crate Chevy 350 , or Ford 5.0, with an appropriate tranny, and you can do 100% more, be street legal, have more power, not have to tow it places, and carry a ton more stuff with you.
