I bought my own 10.9 yellow zinc hardware and I’m so glad I did! Looking at what comes supplied from Rock Hard there’s no wonder it rusts so quickly. Especially the homemade washers . I had Rock Hard oil pan and transmission skids on my 2016 JK and I don’t recall the same issue.

Good idea. I just purchased the RH rear LCA skids, do you mind sharing exactly what and where you purchased your new hardware from? I’d like to get it before install. Thanks

I've had the skids installed for a year now, they made my clayton arms clunk from the beginning, torquing them more fixed the issue temporarily but it kept coming back. I eventually removed them, straightened them (they were bent from torquing the bolt) and reinstalled with additional washers, then torqued to factory specs. Its been 2 months now and so far, seems like it solved the issue.

I purchased the bolts from Belmetric.com. I'm sure I could have gotten them cheaper somewhere else, but it was convenient and I received them in a few days. I understand the Rock Hard brackets are a little too wide and torquing to 190 ft-lb is bending them. I wanted to buy a washer to fill the gap but I didn't know how thick the washer needs to be.

Ive been having an issue with front end clunking. I’m pretty sure it’s the skids (I also have the Mopar lift). By looking at your parts lift it seems you used the same length bolts as the RH kit? Has this stayed tight and still working with no clunking for you?

A little update. After re-torquing everything (specially rears) to 195 ftlbs. It has been totally quiet, no clunking for several months.

I wished I had installed with better hardware - thanks for @swang for posting the HW list. I'm not looking forward to replacing those now, but if I ever pull them I'll re-install with better HW.

Yeah, you just went through torquing it all down to stop your clunking, but it’s worth it to upgrade the hardware. I just did exactly that from the same source. It’s really not that bad, once you remove a nut just drive the bolt out with a new one to keep everything lined up, then put the new one in and drive your line-up bolt out. It keeps everything from coming apart and having to realign it all each time.

My mechanic confirmed that my skids are bending. I ordered (and received today) the same bolt kit Swang listed (company right in my home state so literally took one day to arrive). Now I’ve got to find the time to get them swapped out. Thanks everyone!

I think with how much I have to torque and bend that Rock Hard skid, I'm thinking I can even drive my Jeep without the bolts and the skid will hold the control arm in place :)

That b$#% is tight and snug now - I'll need a sledge hammer if I ever need to get it off.

Any chance of posting a pick of the new hardware prior to installation? Thanks.

I haven’t installed the skids yet with the new hardware. I’m expecting to have to purchase additional washers to fill the gaps so the skid plates don’t bend from the 195 ft lbs.

Did you not receive the thick tabbed shims that RockHard provides? I somehow lost one somewhere along the way and used a few thick washers which worked. But when I went to upgrade the hardware I just emailed RockHard to purchase another one and they just shipped it out to me for free.

I did receive the thick shims, but from what other people have said, they don't fill the gap completely. They leave enough room for the tabs to bend from the 195 ft lbs of torque. Others have suggested to use washer(s) to fill the gap.

Any reviews of ROCK HARD 4X4 Front Control arm skids? I think they are the only ones who makes bolt on front skids for control arms. Is there a reason nobody makes bolt on ones?
I installed mine. You have to lift body some for the front driver's side. Hard to line bolt up. Rear ones were easy once you get going.
