Upper control arm skids? Alternative

I've got the Rusty's rear frame side, and they are hoss, they don't have a front though.

Do the RH's just use the CA bolt on one side? If so, I think the Barne's ones may do better even if they are thinner.

The Barnes look strong. Some simple drilling.

I bent both of my skids the same way. I bent them back into shape and welded a few pieces of 3/16 flat bar together to make pieces that bolt to the frame so that the skids cannot bend away again. On each side there was one threaded hole in the frame from a factory skid that was removed when I installed my belly pan and another hole in the frame that I made a flag nut to fit. In the end there are 2 bolts holding the piece I made so it can't turn. Time will tell how it all holds up but it seem very strong and has survived a few hits so far. Hopefully, the pictures below make it clear.

Yeah the rock hard just uses the one control arm bolt so it’s secured via 1 point on the chassis

That’s awesome, glad that works in your case, but unfortunately I don’t know how to fabricate metal or weld haha

Those Barnes skids look great. If my Frankenstein repair on my RockHard skids fail I will definitely get those.

I knew what you meant but some of RH4x4’s descriptions use some strange wording. Here are mine. I guess I’m not trying hard enough. Mostly slow scraping and screeching on lower skid areas rather than hard hits. The Barnes version looks like the way to go.

What is the random hole for?

Would bolting something with a button head be enough to keep it from rotating? Could almost use a botton head/recessed washer on the bottom and a T-nut on top.

Creek water drip from Saturdays trail run. Or SoCal hard water spot. Maybe all the minerals and crap in our hard tap water gives me an extra layer of protection.

EDIT: after double checking , there is a hole but it’s not directly under the control arm mount so it would take maybe L shaped bracket coming off the bolt for the control arm and then you could bolt to that. I’ll just use these and switch to Barnes in the future

No it’s a hole check there website I thought it was a water spot also but the one on there website have a hole also
