I'm throwing this up as a warning to anyone else who may go down the same rabbit hole as me. So I swapped my Warn Elite bumper (which I loved) for a Road Armor Stealth rear bumper to better match my Road Armor fenders. The bumper has two cutouts for backup lights and mounts inside the bumper to mount the lights. I started looking at pictures of people with this bumper, and I really didn't like the look of the light being recessed into the bumper.

I thought a flush mount lights would look so much better. So the first issue was that the cutout was slightly too narrow, so I broke out a reciprocating saw to widen it slightly. Then I drilled the two mounting holes into the bumper. That's when I realized the holes were going directly into the bumper mounts for lights. I have no idea why they made these mounts 3-sided as opposed to just a shelf. I mean - the shelf is steel as thick as the bumper!

At this point, I was committed to making it work, as I had already drilled the holes. So out comes the angle grinder...

A couple hours later - viola!

It was a total PITA, but I'm happy with the end result.

I get that was a pain, but the end result is much better.

How did your backup sensors work with the Road Armour bumper compared to the Warn Elite? I am actually looking at both of them because my Rival bumper causes my sensors to go off constantly.

Sorry - I don’t know. I don’t have the backup sensors, although both bumpers have the holes cut for them.

Thank you for this. I also got the Road Armor rear JL Stealth bumper. It looks great and matches the fenders I put on a few years ago. I also thought that flush mount would look better. Black Oak makes a 2” LED spreader light that fits into the cutout without needing to enlarge. I took a small grinder and ground down the 3 tack welds for the light bracket and hit with a hammer and out came the bracket. Took the grinder and cleaned up the spot welds and a little black paint and you would never know they were there. Drilled the mounting holes and all is good. Wired the lights up and all is good. Relocated the license plate to the spare tire. Please forgive closeup pic as I had not secured the light wires yet. Good project and I think the bumper looks better. So much light in reverse now, way better than stock.
