That's pretty impressive considering the additions / changes that have been made over those decades.
That's what I was thinking as well. I am less convinced the price increases are all that terrible. However, it's worth notiing that this is base prices. When I asked for highest end trim packages that were fully loaded this brought out a different picture.

1960Jeep CJ-5 Deluxe$2,200~$2,500~$25,000
1970Jeep CJ-5 Renegade$3,500~$4,000~$30,000
1980Jeep CJ-7 Laredo$7,500~$9,000~$30,000
1990Jeep Wrangler YJ Sahara$15,000~$18,000~$38,000
2000Jeep Wrangler TJ Sahara$20,000~$25,000~$40,000
2010Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon$30,000~$35,000~$45,000
2020Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon$42,000~$50,000~$52,000
2024Jeep Wrangler Rubicon X$61,380~$70,000$70,000

I have to admit, that is a massive price jump from 2020 to 2024 as far as the Rubicon goes. I would agree that this is a touch excessive.

Yep, the typical "more is better" mentality strikes again.

Mine, of course, has lots "more", so apparently I'm contributing to the issue.

To me as a consumer that’s all irrelevant. What matters to me is the price I pay. People keep complaining about Jeep prices. My thing is compare the prices against the competition.
I hear you. I was not disagreeing with you. I was just making the point that Stellantis/Jeep need to adjust price/incentives or adjust production volumes. They were in denial for the first 3 quarters of 2024, then it all blew up in their faces.

But The 4Runner is not new completion, it’s always been there and has there before the Bronco .. it’s just updated like the rest.
That is true, of course. But I'd say this 4Runner generation is a substantial improvement over the geriatric previous 4Runner platform. And with 2 models (TRD Pro and Trailhunter) with 33" AT tires standard, advanced shocks (Fox and Old Man Emu), built-in air on the Trailhunter, etc. It's even more of a Wrangler competitor.

Luckly for Jeep, Toyota is very ambitious on how it's pricing the Trailhunter and TRD Prod - Car and Driver has a good article on it - they are like $8K more than current gen for those top trims.

In any event - more competition is good :)

Idk the two are completely different vehicles. If I want an open air, rugged, and offroad capable vehicle then the 4runner isn't it. If i want a cool looking suv then the 4runner might be a good choice.
Believe it or not, majority of Jeep Wrangler sales are not hardcore rock crawlers. The volume in the marketplace is consumers who will absolutely, 100% seriously cross-shop the 4runner, Wrangler, and Bronco.

The things that most people in this forum believe "make a Jeep a Jeep" matter extremely little to the bulk of today's auto shoppers. They just want something that looks cool, sits high like a truck, and can handle a dirt or gravel road.

The vast majority of Jeep Wranglers only leave pavement to park in a dirt parking lot or the rare gravel road.

The Taco and Ranger didn’t devastate Gladiator sales. The Gladiator was the new kid on the block and took the sales from them originally. Now that those who wanted one has one and sales have dropped.
The 4Runner has been around a while...but a lot of marketing has gone into this new and improved version and there will be folks who opt for it over a Wrangler. Never said it would devastate Wrangler sales but just that it would impact them to a degree.

Coolest 4Runner is the one my dad has, 1997 and going strong in harsh Afghanistan 💪

Thank you. Yes I talked politics and got booted out 😢 But I will behave myself here 😃👍
Less activity over here than I remember over there but good group of people to hang out with here. Welcome aboard. I know you had a 4Runner before your Jeep...what do you think of the new 4Runner?

The new 4Runner is lame. It has a tiny funny little engine, and it also looks ugly. My 2022 4Runner was solid. It felt like a car from the '90s. It had big levers and knobs, and the parking brake was by your right foot, you had to press that hard with your foot and it made a whole bunch of noise. It had a loud and thirsty 4 L V6 that sounded like diesel. 5th gen 4Runner is the only 4Runner that could rival my dad's cool third gen. My dad's 4Runner is so cool he runs diesel oil in it, 20w60 and that is also some 3rd world crappy oil 🫣

This was my 4Runner. I put 8,000 miles on it and sold it at MSRP 😄 I sold the poor thing because it is not the best off-road. It is long and also has IFS.

You are forgetting the biggest segment of the pavement princes. Those that “HAVE TO HAVE” the best off roader for bragging rights, not because they actually use them. There is a reason the Wrangler outsells the others…
Toyotas reputation of the past is quickly fading.

I will never own one of these. I paid $50K for my 2020 TRD Pro 4 Runner. No vehicle is worth over $50K. Not a single one and Jeeps aren't worth more than $30K. This will be my last Jeep I believe so I will probably drive it until 75Kn when my extended warranty is up. I'm tired of car payments and ones with 4 digits would be retarded.

Sorry...I did not pick up on that. It would be nice to still buy in 1960 dollars though.
A 1960 dollar (90% silver coin) is worth $25 today so you actually can buy a 2024 Jeep for the same price as new Jeep in 1960.
