So I have a rhythmic chirping noise at most but not all starts. Its chirping like 2-3 times per second. I thought it was just cold weather related but we've had some warmer days and it's still doing it. It generally stops after a few minutes. I don't think it's a major issue but it bugs the hell out of me. I also tried spraying some water on the serpentine belt while running and the chirping went away temporarily. Does this sound like a belt replacement would do the trick? If so, can someone point me to some instructions on how to replace the belt? Do belt conditioners work well for this?

In my experience belt dressing softens the belt and is a temporary fix. Inspect the belt for cracks and missing ribs. If present, time to replace. If you remove the belt check all of your pulleys.

How many miles on the Jeep? Belts have improved so much over the years, they just dont go bad like they used to. Check for something contaminating the belt.

Do you think tightening the belt might help?

For the people that had the chirp, did it sound like this? I have a 23’ Sport S V6 with 8500 miles that’s been making this noise for the last 2500 miles or so? I read on another thread about applying light brake pressure when starting, but mine makes this noise even at a remote start. I will make a trip to the dealer if necessary, but there are none close to me so I thought I’d check here first to see if anyone had any suggestions ?

Mine sounds a lot different than that. Mine sounds more like a chirp chirp chirp chirp. Yours is way more continuous.

Well shucks. Any idea what it could be? This is my first jeep in 20 years and I’m not a mechanic unfortunately! LOL I’m just so surprised because it’s a brand new car?!?

Belt
Idler Pulley
Tensioner Pulley
Water Pump
Alternator
A/C Compressor

sounds like something on the belt drive. Very annoying.

I did and didn’t see anything that really stood out. I brought it down to the dealer this morning and they said it’s a tensioner belt pulley so you were correct!!
Super easy fix. Surely they got it taken care of already?

Where do you live? I want to go to your mechanic. After sitting at the dealership for 7 hours, they said they didn’t have the parts, put my car back together, and sent me on my way. And that’s with an appointment. They’re going to call me Monday and tell me when to drive back down. It’s only about an hour and 10 minute drive each way. Could be worse I suppose.?
