Hey all, I know this issue has been mentioned before but curious if anyone has actually had any resolution.

I am currently sitting around 6k miles and am continueing to have the belt squeal sound on start-up. I was hoping this would resolve with break-in, however this doesn’t appear as it’s going to be the case.

Anyone else out there with this persistant problem had any luck with a diagnosis and/or fix?

There are a couple of noises at start-up and shut-down that come from the transmission. When I first turn the Jeep on, there is a solenoid our small motor that turns as if to unlock the transmission (maybe the auto-park lock?). When the Jeep is turned off, there is a quick 'tat-tat-tat' noise which is very similar or the same, and might be the same type of latch engaging. They do not sound out-of-the-ordinary and I believe everyone with an automatic should have them. I am not concerned with them at all.

Apparently what is causing this is the ESS system and the 2018 Grand Cherokees have this issue as well. From what I've been told there isn't a resolution at the moment.

I also have it and it does sound like a belt squeal for just a moment. Doesn't seem normal, but I will wait for an oil change to get it addressed

I have this and have had it since day one...now at 15k miles. It hasn't gotten worse or better...I was at the dealer and mentioned it to them and they kinda laughed. We walked over to a Grand Cherokee and started it...same issue... Its irritating and has been, but it is obviously a known issue that will not be addressed...there is no way they didn't know about this prior to release.

If it's just a belt, a quick spray of silicone lube should suffice.

Hey Everyone,
11,250 kms in and I have the same "belt squeal" at start up. Seems to more pronounced as the weather warms, however could just be that the windows are down. It's actually an embarrassing sound, sometimes louder than other times. If anyone has had this diagnosed, the info would be helpful. I have the first JL in my town and I fear the Service Department or the technicians will have no clue about repairing it. I refuse to believe that is a "normal" sound as some have suggested.
Thanks,

same noise, oddly enough-- when the ess is active at a stop light, and it turns back on; no squeal.

It's only from the first startup does it do it

It's funny...every noise that anyone has described on here, I have heard. Id like to add, if I tap the brake pedal very lightly, I hear a bird chirp underneath the Jeep as well.

Hello everyone,

If you end up going into the dealer to get this noise checked out, make sure to send me a direct message so I can formally document the concern.
