Mine seems to not do it for a cold start, but it will after leaving the car off for a while. It does not squeal for ess or if remote started, or after turning the car off and then immediately on again. Removing brake pressure as it starts up works but is still annoying and I’d fix if possible.

Anyone have any updates on solutions for this?

Does anyone know if this is causing any damage? or just an annoying noise? Just read this today. '19 JKUR has done it since about 500 miles. currently have about 2500.

Hey Alex. thanks for the response. I haven't discussed with the dealer yet. I have to go in for a recall item and was going to bring up them. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't causing any damage in the mean-time. I just realized from this post that others have had the same noise at startup.

Its the brake booster either building up or releasing pressure. Most people gorilla mash the pedal when they start and the booster has to compensate for starting up under a full braking condition. Touch the brake as lightly as you can and still get the engine to start and you will never hear the noise again. Takes a little practice to get in the habit of doing it but it works.

I have already taken it to Nissani brothers Jeep dealership in Culver City, they said the noise came from the abs system, so they are pretty clueless.

I don’t think this is something people should have to train themselves to deal with for a brand new car. It sounds terrible and like something is broken, whether or not it is, for a 50k new car I think this is pretty unacceptable. Jeep needs to figure out what this is and then communicate to dealerships how to fix it. Seems quite common as there are already several threads on this forum about it.

The brake booster theory sounds like a good one.

if the dealership is so clueless, why don’t you fix it yourself then? Also, you didn’t buy a 50k car. You bought a 30k car with 20k in upgrades. There’s a difference. Stop complaining. You bought a jeep. If that noise doesn’t hurt the vehicle in anyway, what’s the problem? Did you think you bought a luxury vehicle? My rubicon makes the same noise and it doesn’t bother me at all. I guess people buy these vehicles for different reasons.

Did I personally attack him? Or Are you just sensitive?

if the model year 2020 JLs make this noise - Then it’s nothing to worry about.

I probably will, its pretty bad. If you’ve heard a car with a bad belt slip squeal it’s about that loud. These type of things in manufacturing are typically statistical and variable across units, so your squeal is not the same as mine. I’m sure that there is a startup noise loudness that you would not be cool with.

Seriously surprising that people get on here and tell other people to “stop complaining” when they probably don’t know what they are talking about.

Checkin in. 2018 JLU with 800 miles. Squeaking since day 2. Based on the guidance in this thread I've learned to apply the brake just enough to start the engine. It doesn't eliminate the squeal, but does seem to minimize it a lot. But what a garbage design. FCA probably has internal memos on the "undocumented features" found in the JL

Mine squeaks for a brief fraction of a second at startup. I have always assumed it was brake pressure related and never worried about it. I think you would hear this on other vehicles but the quickness at which these start allows you to hear all the wake-up noises that used to be masked by the starter cranking sounds.
