2018 JL Rubicon 3.6l manual, bought new, now has 1000mi, and I'm starting to get valve clatter/ticking at startup. Also I can constantly hear vlavetrain noise even warm if I'm listening. It goes up with idle. Fluids are good.. power seems to plateau after 4200rpm. Im only getting 16mpgs. I've always owned old toyotas this is the first jeep. I love everything else, just seems for 40k i wouldn't be cringing at startup. Also why wont this mud wash off my fenders and tires?!?!

I would change the oil and filter and see if clatter goes away. If not bring back to dealer and see what they say.

Per the mud, nice power washer would take care of that ;)

Nice Wrangler, Jljohnny.

Are you planning on making your servicing dealer aware of what you're experiencing? Send us a direct message as we'd be glad to discuss this further.

Iā€™ve learned that cringing at startup is a part of the Jeep experience. Between the starter screeching, something banging, and the questionable valve noises, starting the Wrangler is like changing a dirty diaper... you just do it quickly and move on. And if you can find a dealership who will admit they hear anything other than perfection, youā€™ve won the lottery.

The 16 MPG thing is odd, though. Iā€™m getting around 20 in stop and go traffic.
